Hey Ian what are the good over £30 ones to get please? I have had similar problems, cheers JerryA bit nebulous this one but any wire strippers that cost less than £30 at current prices, automatic plier types mainly. Using "the force" plier types can be had for £13 from B&H. The cheapo automatic ones either gently stroke the insulation or slice it straight through, not good after you have set the final length of a conductor forming part of a tortuous cable run.
I find a lot of tools while working in roof spaces or above false ceiling tiles, left behind by previous contractors, and they are always complete rubbish. I've come to the conclusion that either the contractors are so careless with their tools that they only buy cheapies or that they only search for expensive tools that they have left behind and if it's a cheapie they can't be arsed.
A recent find was a claw hammer with a bright orange handle, I thought that would be handy in the tractor for knocking linkage pins in and out, first time I used it the head flew off, narrowly missing the rear screen!
And a good tip if you do work above false ceiling tiles is to leave any tools overhanging the edge of the tile so it's visible from below.

I have an Armeg Solid Board Cutter which I bought probably 20 years ago, but find the silverline covers fit perfectly if I don't have any Armeg to hand.Possibly a tenuous one here, but I've just bought a http://www.toolstation.com/shop/p36742 Silverline Solid Board Access Cutter and matching http://www.toolstation.com/shop/p98989 Silverline Solid Board Cutter Covers, only the bloody things DON'T match!! First hole I cut I sank it to the stop flange on the cutter as that's the idea, you drill 'til it won't drill any more i.e. the stop flange is flat against the floor then you do what you need to do and then insert the cover, whose' top surface will be neatly flush with your floor. Problem is, there's about a 2mmdrop from floor to cover so there'd be a corresponding circular dent in the carpet when it's fitted. I am going to see if Toolstation will take it back as it's not fit for purpose, not their fault directly but they are stocking a product which doesn't do what it says and I'm dissatisfied, so we'll see what happens. Should have known better, bloody Silverline tools!!!
I bought a pair of Knipex pipe grips with the rubber jaw protectors for doing up chrome taps etc, almost totally useless!

Impossible to get anything tight with these.
Yep here too. The jaws are too soft. I toyed with the idea of 3D printing some, but then just wrapped a rag around a pair of normal ones like we've all done for years.I bought a pair of Knipex pipe grips with the rubber jaw protectors for doing up chrome taps etc, almost totally useless!

I've posted this before, but I made copper faces for my pliers to grip a thin cap I couldn't get a hold of wrapping a rag around.I bought a pair of Knipex pipe grips with the rubber jaw protectors for doing up chrome taps etc, almost totally useless!
