so they did license their name for this junk, my father keeps the cordless drill, the clutch went after 2 weeks just the 18v battery seems to last forever, just to annoy. when i see him wandering around with the bloody thing, i have also come across JCB golf sticks, 20 euro for a full set, new, says it all. it would be a pity to see JCB go down the tubes, like jcb means a jcb like hoover means a hoover. f#@king managers and bankers they got no real vision, they should stick to grey number crunching.

Seriously, it was mainly safe and correct use of what is after all a dangerous tool in the wrong (unskilled) hands

there's a couple on Ebay with lots of caps etc for reasonable money
When I was apprenticed in the late 60's, there didnt seem to be nearly so much emphasis on health and safety, instead you were expected to use a modicum of common sense. Oh, and I forgot to mention, deny all knowledge if anything went wrong. I guess that bit hasnt changed much.

I got back from working abroad for a few years and had none of my old tools. Mum's fiesta needed a new alternator and when I said about sockets she told me she had bought a socket set in supermarket.
I'm thinking, well, these will be cack, and she pulls out the box, they are draper.
'OK, maybe not the end of the world'.
13mm socket looked like a peeled banana within about 4 seconds of me putting it on the first nut
I took the whole lot to the bin and just emptied them in front of her.
TBH I have some good stuff, and some cack stuff. The cack stuff is usually an ebay special that has been bought for 1 task.
There is a guy who has a market stall near me on a Sunday, does all sorts of tools. My best mate was a Kwik-fit monkey, and used one of his 3.99 socket sets day in day out for 3 years on an impact wrench. Bit of the chrome came off, eventually.
My own personal worst tool, B&Q 9" grinder, lasted 1 cutting disc then the motor caught fire. Replacement didn't work, 3rd time around it just stopped working after a week. There was no 4th time.
I have a Clarke 4.5" which is fine, I have a yellow thing I got off eblag for nothing with 100 discs, again, no probs with that, and just bought a lidl special 5" grinder for my wire wheel. I hate changing discs, so have 1 or cutting, 1 for grinding, and mr angry brush is on the other.
Best tool in the garage, Portamig closely followed by an 18v makita cordless combi drill (currently £80 including case and 3 batts @ screwfix) - although am on the lookout for a Stella mini-fridge

Most useless: Nameless Mole grips from Halfords. Clamped a bolt and the fecker wouldn't let go! Levered it off and the lock handle snapped off.
Best: King Dick Mole Grips. Had them for over 20 years and abused the hell out of them before finally losing them (see above). Just bought some Irwins - supposed to be better than King Dicks - We'll see
Oh, and my Makita 4" angle Grinder. Bought it for £100 off Snap On (********!) appx 15 years ago. Abused like hell. Bought new bushes last year for it, took the old ones out and they were fine. They must use depleted uranium ffs!
Tool I'm most useless with: Soldering iron. I'm pretty good at soldering but every single time I use one I burn myself pretty badly. And I do mean everytime, even though I'm fully aware and careful I just feck it up.

Wubbish! Clarke self adjusting grips (Mole Type). There's an Asda 40ft artic trailer floating around with a very big dent in the front bulkhead where I lost my rag and threw them whilst repairing the rear shutter door.

Momentary lapse of judgement on a Vat free day as I thought it looked crap but decided that if it worked to a fashion it could be improved/modified/copied as I wanted greater accuracy grinding smaller bits. First impression was correct and I took it back: "What's wrong with it Sir?" "It's absolutely rubbish." "Yeah mate, you're right!" Case closed.
Wubbish! Clarke (can you see a common theme yet?) Combination Square Set. Made from die cast Zinc and had so much play in the protractor head it was impossible to get consistent accuracy. Another momentary lapse as above and taken back at the same time.
I have a use for cheap sockets and tools, I keep a box full of them collected over the years and use them to make special tools for jobs. Recently I have fabricated 4 different tools from old sockets and extension bars to get jobs done, latest one impressed the hell out of a 17yr old when we needed a VW strut nut tool for his car as I made it with the lathe and a file!
