Worst tool you ever bought

Cheapo tools, lots of them in the past, if you see Silverline on the able, buy it and put it in the canal to save some other mug buying it. WQe used to have a great tol shop localy, now it is full of cheap junk, chocolate drills, etc etc.

The worst I ever shelled out for was some of these,

Wow that is a mouthful. Not too cheap 240v metal cutting shears, rated up to 3.2mm. On 1.2mm they were great for about 15 seconds, then they weren't. Garbage. i sheled out for a set of Bosch shears Fantastic things, I use them almost every day, highly recomended.

Years back I bought a cheapo nibbler to go on my drill, spat out needle sharp swarf everywhere, and would not follow a line for toffee, Ok they worked but were unusable as the swarf went everywhere. I was finding it all over the house weeks later.

Worst tool I did not buy? the tool shop mentioned tried to sell me a kit to make my angle grinder into a circular saw for cutting steel, wood and plastics, the kit contained a TCT lookalike blade and no guards, I think Frost sell them worth a look, just to scare yourself.

MachineMart Emery Wheel Dresser was the worst Tool (amongst many.....)

As soon as it touched the grindstone, the centre screw came undone and all the discs went flying.
Lasted a total of 2 Seconds
MachineMart replaced it, and the second one was the same.
Luckily I stopped using it before the screw came out this time.
TIG Welding the screw into place cured it......
It will give me a few more wheel dressings before its worn out

worst tools i ever bought was cheap lathe bits, the ones with the tungsten brazed on. Either they chipped or the tungsten fell off. Now i just use tools steel and grind my own tools

Andy, I also have two of these, press it on the wheel, Spdanng!! al over the shop.
I complained they sent me another and I welded the thing together. Shocking really, I thought mine might be a one off. It could easily have your eye ot.

Beta tools are Italian (BETA Utensili in Italian) and are very good quality - you may have seen their name on sponsor logos on F3 etc race cars - the race teams use Beta tools a lot too. Any Beta stuff in my toolbox has lasted well and their screwdrivers are good quality steel and properly hardened.
I got a new 130 turbo mig from BOC for a magazine article I wrote on welding aluminium, BOC supplied it with a 4 ft high bottle of pure Argon, under the BOC stickers i think it is a Cebora or similar - the wire wheel holder is a total comedy, made of cheese-like plastic that I have had to bond together with adhesive and strap together across the machine to keep tension on the wire. The motor is the same as a Skoda windscreen wiper motor - actually quite sturdy. I am still using it and it strangely has not worn out the liner etc in a full bottle's use...

Does anyone know where I can get the BOC Argon bottle filled/exchanged without a contract, in North London please?

Worst tool has to be the egg beater I bought on Christmas Eve - to make three trifles. It broke after 1/2 pint of cream and I had to whip the next two liters with a fork - my right arm looks like an amorous prisoner's...

Anything with Silverline on. Never again.

Bolt extractors from halfrauds, after snapping 3 out of 8 on the same bolt i took it straight back.

They've been licensing the name I think. Not to the right folk though.

Don't buy a JCB unless it's got a bucket on one end and a dozer blade on the other and is made in the UK. It'll be rubbish. Cheap enough though, and a pretty yellow colour.

dont even buy one with a bucket on the end IMHO, unfortuantly theyve been selling on name alone for a few too many years......

i have a set of jcb pliers and they have held up well to everyday garage use.

the combination pliers and side cutters are very, very good.

i wouldnt buy their power tools though unless the price was a steal!

Got a JCB air nailer from Argos for about £30 and it has been going strong for about 3 years now. Nearest comparable one at the time was almost 3 times the price so no complaints from me

Used to use a cartridge gun for fixing conduit boxes to concrete or steel, by using a large nut to defeat the safety interlock you could blow a hole in the box to save setting up a drill (no battery drills those days)
