Sparky has just been around to survey the wiring requirements
I will be having 3 x double 13a sockets, 1x 16a and 1x 32a socket plus 2 x led strip lights and approx 15 meters of 10mm armoured cable.
He has not given me a specific price for all the work yet but from the way he was talking it might be around £500.
I have used this lad before and he knows what he is doing so happy days.

I will update with the exact cost when I get his quote.

That was a guess to be honest because he hadnt committed until he has worked it all out, could be much cheaper
Yeah I think 3 double 13 a sockets will be fine, its only a 12x12 workshop. Why do you think more would be better

only you know how many sockets you require.

I hate keep pulling things out and swapping plugs over! hoover,phone charger, radio, battery charger,work lamp, cooler, dehmidifier, heater, before you get started on tools bench grinder, angle grinder, and more!

Loving your lathe maybe one day for me too but got enough on my plate learning the welding at the mo

its always a learning day! tig and lathe is my homework now!

got to agree you can never have enough sockets cheaper to get them put in now than have the spakie come back again 6 months or a year down the road. unless you can do the work yourself

I don't know if sparkies do this, but leave plenty cable in for adding extra ones later. You'll find out where you need them, not where you think you might need them. A bit like paths on new build campuses, let people walk where they will and then pave the tracks left.

And get him to add add a proper outside socket too.


FWIW I've nearly 100 double sockets in my house and shed. I doubt a quarter of them get used but it's better that than extension leads.

I have a double outside socket not 15 feet from the door of the workshop, so that should be enough

Just seen the Draper Expert Retractable 20m Cable Reel Extension Lead with Thermal Cutout but its about 104 quid, still i like the idea of thermal cut out so may invest unless anybody has found a similar elsewhere and cheaper

2 led strip lights won't be enough even for the smaller of the two!
I had 5 x 5' double fluorescent lights in my old garage (21x11 foot) plus various others plugged in and that was only just good enough.

I made sure I had sockets at both ends on my garage, But could do with more!

its 12x12 feet I will probaly be able to link up more myself if its not enough
