What can I say about how awesome this forum is? I'm absolutely endebted to all of you here and I'm really excited that I can do what I originally wanted

Yes this will be a one person operation and I would be welding exclusive of any compressor. The compressor will be mainly to power a plasma cutter when I can afford one.
The sockets may run a small amount of halogen heating, 1.2KW max, so I'll stick with 20A on the radial.
The shed CU will have an RCD or individual RCBOs so tripping it won't be a problem as I won't have to walk far to reset
It'll be in 10mm or 16mm SWA, I've not decided yet. 16mm is not much more expensive than 10mm and will help with the voltage drop. Damn TLC's heavy cable surcharge though

I shall give them a ring when I've got the final measurement, I've yet to dig the trench (by hand, boo hiss) but will be laying a few ducts down for power, network and a spare. Once I've got the draw through I'll have a pretty good idea of length. I will most definitely be adding a few metres for dropsies, not that I've made a mistake like that in the past of course, oh no

Aye I'd intended to put the cable into a sand bed then lay about six inches of blinding over it then warning tape. Another foot or so of backfill then warning tape again. Top one warns there's something down there and bottom one warns you're gonna hit it soon

I'd rather work with 95mm 4 core SWA than 2.5 flat twin any day!Yep, I'd agree, urgency and convienence are usually a factor, and most isn't urgent and I'm a bit lazy, so I spec 3-core
3 core is OK, but you are increasing the cost for no benefit.

Yes and it is suitable as a bonding conductor for TN-C-S & PME but there there is a minimum size that the current carrying conductors have to be so that the SWA has sufficient cross sectional area it needs to meet the requirements.

Try getting qualified & authorised unless you are a DNO employee, from a metering company or say for example a local authority street lighting employee.
Or, you are an authorised contractor to the DNO.
I've tried as I do work for the local health board that requires total disconnections of supply @ patients homes, no chance, no matter what.

OK so you are saying you work for your local DNO then?
Are you going to get all the records updated for your mods?
You can't sort out the calculations & wiring for your install yet you feel you are competent to change the design of your incoming supply from what seems from your posts to be your employers network.
I smell a rat, someone who does not know what they are doing, or someone who is bull*******.

I had a DNO guy asking me advice on his install last week.
IF you are DNO are you operational or design?
If you are operational do you have sufficient network information and competence to design and implement your own unauthorised network modifications?
If you are design, are you competent to implement your own designs?
Oh and YES I call a spade a spade, & I am being polite.
The electrical industry in this country is on its knees, it has been done over by Part P, and the incompetents doing work (I am not saying that you are totally incompetent Kayos, I am however saying that I don't quite see how you can legally do everything you are discussing here yourself)
The thing is the Gas industry has it banged to rights, they HAVE to abide by the rules, in the electrical game there are too many people who don't play by the rules, thus they play in the shadows, thus it allows the industry to be dragged down to the lowest common denominator, thus the lowest cost.
This is what has goosed the electrical trade, and it will continue until the WHOLE trade works to a common standard, and when people work in the shadows of the requirements this will never happen.
I'm looking for out for this very reason, the industry is destroying itself by lowering it's standards, undercutting each other, and doing work in the shadows that is not strictly to the rules.
The sooner I can get totally out of it the better, and good luck to the rest of you who are destroying your own futures.
