I have a 3 kw fn heater, and a 3 kw ceramic heater. For me at the bench the radiated heat from the ceramic seems better,

Even the cheaper ones work well.

as a interim measure can you put up more temporary partitions to further reduce the volume to be heated, especially ones with a "ceiling", to maximize the heat input to the area you're working in. I appreciate the part about visitors, but you could maybe hire in fan heaters for the time when they're there, but for the rest when you're working on your own, you could perhaps rig up fire proof partitions made up to suit the areas round the bench etc or wherever you're working, if they were mobile you could move them around to suit your sculpture. Then instead of heating the full 500m3, you could only heat the volume you're working in. Wouldn't think they'd need to be anything fancy, especially as they'd only be temporary.

Obviously you'd need to think about fume extraction and sparks / fire retardant etc, but basically reduce the volume to heat as far as practical and safely.

Another idea would be some colonial type fans at height to recirculate the heat that has risen, although the practicality of this depends on roof height.

Heat source pump about £1800 for small unit works as a dehumidifier and heats the air at the same time while costing a very small amount on electric have them in my workshop wouldn't consider anything else, on a plus side if gets to hot in the summer, can be used in as air conditioning unit

Wood burner = dust and fire hazard
Oil burner = dirty and licensing issues
Space heat = humidity and fumes

mind if i ask what you mean by dust with a wood burner as theres very little if your using secondary burn technology
