Do you think the boiler has thrown the fault code now as the thing wasn't able to get into condensate mode before you sorted it out?

That's exactly what I was thinking, it's now operating much better and the limited slow drain is being overwhelmed.

But did you flush the crud down the drain?

No, I did all the flushing with a bucket under the boiler. Whatever is down the pipe is what's been accumulating over the past 14 years.
