Got under the car this afternoon.
Under trays off.
There are four areas to deal with. front left and right.
Rear left and right.
I got started with the finger sander on the front right, it was all pretty superficial, no welding needed.
I'll need to try to move this AC pipe over a bit tomorrow to get in here.

The rusty bits were actually not covered up so quite the reverse. I was aware of them before buying the car as the seller put it on a lift to let me have a look.
The ovals are the lifting points so after 18 years of use it's no surprise the paint has gone and rust set in.

I got the rust cleaned up, sort of, far from perfect and a bit disappointing.
All four corners similar, but short of using a laser there's not much more I can do. It will be a summer only car going forward so won't see any more salt.
But one step forwards and two steps back.
One of the brake lines I had to move was very rusty under the clip and started to weep.
Luckily I had some copper nickel brake line.
It took a couple of hours to get the brake line out as it was snaked round the wheel well. Had to go in through the headlight opening to get to the top end.
Finally out.
New one bent into shape.
And fitted.
And brakes bled.
Well I suppose it filled a day when I was waiting for a delivery of epoxy hardner from Express Paints.
I'll get it all painted tomorrow with a bit of luck.

I took a mate's Toyota Corolla for a MOT. On those there's a metal plate underneath, and the metal brake pipes are pinched between that plate and the floor.
On the brake test both pipes failed. It would have happened on the next emergency stop.
That's why it's worth testing a classic whether it needs it or not, it can show up hidden problems like that.

I'm going to change every brake pipe and hose at the end of the summer, I'm sure there will be more weak spots in there.
