No, you cant. That example is burning a few hundred grams at a time? No good when you have 1500kg to dispose of in a day.

Pyrolysis of wood, plastic or anything, is also frowned upon by HSE, I believe, quite dangerous if not set up correctly.

Sounds like a good machine, please put vid up if you find it. I cant see a C15 model but they have many. Is yours a drum or disc type?

I was thinking of setting up bench grinder with a jig. However for the drum units, blades need to be identical size as only the anvil is adjustable for the gap, so beyond my skills...

Do you know any one local to you with a high speed horizontal grinder and magnetic chuck . They might be nice to you and make a jig so they can do blades for you for a small consideration .

Looking at the tiny chips on the blades I'd have though it more likely to be sand 'soil on the bark rather then a nut that nicked the blades .

Add a sprinkle or two of sodium sulphamate and it will break it down very quick too..

This is us (big twin at that stage 2017) I had cut these pieces to be easy to mulch. Had in total about 1.5ton from the neighbor, broken due to wind. I have done about 4.5ton on a tank full of fuel. Also I am in error it is a C13 and not C15. It is supposed to do 90mm diameter branches, and it has done short 120mm but green. It was the biggest that I could get. The boss SWMBO said I could get anything I like as long as I could move it by myself. Where we lived previously it wat the limit of human endurance to get it up into the back yard. The biggest advantage is that it will pull and feed itself once the branches are started mulching. It stopps self feeding when the blades are dull.

@Kram my machine is a disc type and the blades are adjustable, however if they are ground individually then the disc is out of balance. The disc rotates over 2500rpm so and is about 500mm in diameter so balance is important.

Yes it is a good machine! Desperately needs a bigger engine to meet the advertised capacity as its constantly bogging down.

Anyone have a recommendation for a reliable/durable hour meter clock thing to leave on it?

I physically wince seeing your hand going into that chute!

No where near the blades! Dont think I put my hands past the rubber flap.

Also the rubber flap has torn at the top on both sides. I imagine it wont last long. On most chippers I hate the flap, but on these gravity fed types it stops, or slows, the small pieces flying out.

The trouble with small drum chucknduck type chipper/shredders is they tend to pull the material in at a rate that will bog the engine down, they need to be fed small select amounts of brash and shorter sticks at the same time as in mix in the leafy gear with the bigger sticks as you go. The operator is the stress controller.

I've found with the larger diameter stuff it's fine if you simply pop it in & then let the machine deal with it, rather than feeding/pushing it in. It'll bounce it back out a bit, every so often, which allows the drum to speed up again.

I have been around a few of the large tow behind ones, Ford 300-6 was a standard
engine on several of these. The garage I worked in would fix a few for the local tree guys.

Recently helped out a tree trimmer guy at my place, he was short a worker.
so I helped, put branches in a very nice, large Vermeer diesel, with the feed rolls.
IIRC it could swallow 18"-20" Diameter.

The machine had the governor (load holding) wired to the feed rollers, to stop
feeding for a short time as the engine bogged down. Works very nice.
Any idiot (including me) can run it without any problems.

However....this machine has (2) large spiked feed rollers, axles set vertical, the size of
55 gallon drums.
Feeding the machine scared the Bajeezus out of me, seeing them drums about
2' from my hand (chute was long enough to preclude me getting any closer)


Either way, not a fun time.

We have a 24" Morbark WTC with a Cummins turbo diesel in it, thats a bit of a scary beast, we used to machine feed the thing until it got accidentally fed with some girders. Keep meaning to repair it but the chip market is on its backside.

I read that it can help to change the feed angle, by tilting the machine, larger peices go in with less gravity behind them, while thin leafy stuff needs as much help as it can get, something I will try adjusting with a log or two.

It was time consuming to feed leafy hedge trimmings, today, but I had some long lengths to feed with it.
I'm thinking I should make a pusher - a 6" square flat bit of wood with a hole in the middle for a broom handle. Make it too big to go all the way in.

Today was pleasant, one load of perhaps 240kg took only minutes.

My neighbor did land clearing and Logging (has the only twin screw OshKosh logging truck around).
He had a crawler mounted chipper like you describe, has a loading arm.
IIRC the Cummins was 800 hp.

Careful tilting the machine too much. The engine is probably splash lubrication and you don't want to starve it of oil.

Due to accident Thurs I got my friend down with his tipper van to help me finish the job.
Chipping into tipper is nicer, no need to adjust bags etc, however we did find the chute outlet is too low! Plenty of air pushing the chips out but had to raise the machine up on 4" fence post blocks, and it could have done with being another 2 or 4", but it went ok, no chip spilt outside the tipper. Went well, at the end, it did slip off the blocks.

With two people, its an easy lift in to and out of the van. He is impressed, there may be jobs where we take it instead of the Forst just due to parking issues.

I need to look into the engine swap, any one able to help me choose parts?
25.4mm bore engine pulley with centrifugal clutch and suitable pulley. They seem to come with the pulley part.
It'll need new belts that are longer.
Possibly new drum pulley.

Current belts are a pair of SPA type. With a 460cc engine and 15hp, it may be best to swap to SPB kr a pair of them.

Somone on here was recommending PolyV belts and that does make a lot of sense if I can find suitable parts?

Engine mounting adaptor plate, to bolt on with the gx200 mounts, with bolt holes for the GX460.
