ive watched but im going to ask

is that plate removable ?

if it is then remove it and rebuild with firebrick and cement

dont make your own molds its expensive and you have to pick the right heat to be inplace of your stove with firebrck you dont have to do

castable refractory is dear at 50.00 per 25kg bag

Interesting that people use old storage heate blocks inside woodburners.

Instinct suggests that this would increase the warm up time of the fire but also slow the cool down time too. The former is undesirable, the latter, desirable.

Anyone that's using them, do your notice these differences? Seems like it would be suitable if you lit the fire and wanted to keep it going for long periods, but if you only light for a few hours a night, maybe more reflective fibreboard is a better choice.

I have stacked old storage heater blocks around the body of our wood burner, but not sure about use inside.

If it were me, if it was in the workshop, I'd chop out the thinned section and weld in a new bit. If installed and wanting a few more years before it burnt through; new, or even doubled up fibreboard.

Never used the ready mixed cement, cant see why it wouldn't work though. The powdered gear is cheaper and can be mixed/laid in really thick.

your stove apears to be cast

and its been over heated your lucky it didnt crack the stove

depending on if you use coal or wood coal is a higher temp and from the look that back part has caught the highest temp thats why its out of shape and bent by the look of it

your stove will reach 1500f easily the higher temps are with coal

so yes it should be good enough to use can i say for definate nope as i would use firebrick myself as they do help to protect the stove

you will have to shape so it fits back against that back wall and you want pref an 1" thick left to right top to bottom and also in the middle its easier to make 2 pieces and join in the middle

Only ever burns logs. I'm looking on eBay etc at s/hand fire bricks / vermiculite board. I've asked for the stove model / make in case it's possible to get a ready to fit kit of boards.

I would definitely not use night store bricks inside the stove, fir the reasons already mentioned. They are however very useful to sit on top of the stove, where they will absorb heat and then keep on releasing it for hours after the stove has gone out. Just like a night store heater in fact!

There is a gap behind that plate,its part of the secondary air burn system,it draws its air from under the burner itself,warms up and comes out through the top

I'd say unless that plate had a hole it, which it doesn't, it's fine left alone.

But you can get spare parts…so-if there are spare parts, there is a good chance that part will come out-to be repaired

Thanks for all the replies. Getting anything ready made doesn't seem possible. I've emailed Franco Belge even.

As I understand it then, I buy some vermiculite board, measure up inside the stove, maybe make card templates, then cut the board. Fit into the stove and seal with what at the joints between boards?

(Probably better tbh to measure before ordering the board).

if you buy the 1" bricks as shown you can cut them in half using a wood saw

because its on a curve this will allow you to follow the curve with a bit of heatproof cement to fill the gaps inbetween you should get a better cover

then you will have 1" of cover over the metal plate

As this is a welding forum…..how about cut out burnt bent bit. Cut new piece of 3 mm plate, bow slightly to suit. Stick weld it in place!

Why do folk want to over complicate everything. Simple is good.
