Wonky band saw ??

Just done another dozen cuts. Blade jumped off three times. Angle of cut differs after about 6 cuts. In both ways. The blade is set true to instructions aawell. With all other settings aswell.

It's the trouble when you adjust something to the max or past it. It cocks other things up. Blade is running true as can be. Tight against the back lip but not scoring it.

I'll keep faffing and if it do.t play right ill get a donkey saw built from the 1950s lol

Adjusting the blade won’t make a difference if the plane that the bow travels across isn’t square to the plane of the vice. Can you shim the vice???

It must be the pivot not running true. If you’re lucky might be the pivot pin is bent.

you can check the pivot bushes and their relation to the bed by using winding sticks (albeit using straight steel versions). I imagine from your description the pivot is not perfectly horizontal compared to the perpendicular of the bed.

<edit> not sure what exactly you are “shaving” but if you do not alter the relationship of the pivot axis to the bed then it will do nothing except create a fixed offset.

Thats why I mentioned the end pivot will get damaged if I shave the mount plate as in above pic. It would solve the angle of cut but stain the pivot and knacker it.

Exactly. The blade angle and the pivot axis are two separate things which may cause a similar issue and one might even compensate for the other but ideally, they should both be set independently.

I reckon it's the pivot, too, can you take the Big Spring off, see whether there's slop on the pivot shaft? One thing I wonder, is the grubscrew there to adjust the arm on the pivot? A bandsaw I came across (a green and yellow one as immediately but one above) had the pivot out of level left/right in the base casting and the blade travelled at an angle from the vertical. It was returned for a refund, but re-sold by the importer...

Yes that’s the other point. There may be cumulative errors in older machinery. The only thing to do is take a deep breath and start from scratch making sure each component is operating within a reasonable tolerance.

with any luck it will be one great big (fixable) problem with the pivot but fixing that may reveal slop, misalignment and wear in other aspects of the machine.

Looking at it with these band saws they are not the best, for the money aswell. Towards a good power hacksaw there real bad. I looked at the power hacksaws ages ago, only as used them many moons ago and thought they were dam good machines but slow cutting towards the band saws.

I dont think its worth the faff at the minute but ill sleep on it and see what happens in the week.

Ill be cutting 25mm SS tube and 50mm mild steel box so a power will do that ok.

It’s impressive,especially for the price,to be fair mines in daily use by 3 operators,and at times semi production situations ,running for 4 hours.
In the second year the blade drive wheel broke,I rewelded it whilst waiting for a replacement,just before the 3 years warranty expired ,another broke,they were very quick to replace foc,recently the swivel base cracked,which I feel is poorly designed being cast,when it’s subject to tension,I featured the replacement on hear last month. I also described the lack of an extension to the bed for 40mm past the vice,which I’ve made.

Would that be a better choice over a good old power hacksaw? The Axminster do get good reviews but for a few things wrong but nothing to affect the machine doing the job.

Needs reboring. I’d rebore it for bearings like my IMET saw.

But the vice base is a solid one piece bed. Or am I not understanding what you mean.

Mine‘s not. the vice is a separate unit that can be fitted in 2 positions to allow for the full range of swivel on the bow.
