Right, both Bruv and I are confused by this. It’s on the running gear for the XR4i, hub nuts.
My understanding is that the UK passenger side, left side when sat in the driver’s seat facing forward, the hub nuts would left hand threads.
I base this on experience of knock on wheels where the left ones are left hand threads so the motion of the wheel (clockwise) would tend to tighten the nuts rather than loosen them. Sound sensible?
Right, the Haynes manual states the opposite. Well Mr Haynes would! Ordinarily I would ignore this cos Haynes manuals were always rather wanting. BUT, Ford seem to have stamped R on the hubs with left hand threads which seems to imply they go on the right side of the car. Still with me?
If the hubs stamped R do go on the right side the forward motion of the wheels would tend to loosen the hub nuts. That seems to be wrong to me. Like I said, Haynes I can easily ignore due to the amount of mistakes in their manuals, but Ford making the same mistake? Seems unlikely to me.
Help! Wisdom needed please.
