You see Dennis that is the big difference, winter in the UK is not that cold but often very damp. I will quite happily walk from bar to bar in an Alpine ski resort and on the way back to the hotel notice it is -10 deg C here if it is +6 or 7 deg C it is cold damp and unpleasant, everyone complains about the cold but it is the damp air that prevails.Don't winterize your tools, winterize your workshop.
Over here when winter comes it's usually the driest time of the year.
