Winterising tools

Don't winterize your tools, winterize your workshop.

Over here when winter comes it's usually the driest time of the year.

You see Dennis that is the big difference, winter in the UK is not that cold but often very damp. I will quite happily walk from bar to bar in an Alpine ski resort and on the way back to the hotel notice it is -10 deg C here if it is +6 or 7 deg C it is cold damp and unpleasant, everyone complains about the cold but it is the damp air that prevails.

Yes I realize this, but it only makes it more important IMO to insulate your shops and heat them to decrease relative humidity levels.

A better insulated shop is also more worthwhile to use a dehumidifier in.

Yep, in Jan / Feb I used to arrive back in Manchester from Bodo and get off the plane, gawd it felt cold, all about the horrible damp.

If the workshop can be kept warm and dry 24/7 its OK but I cant afford to do that, ventilation / oil / wax in the shop and keeping vital stuff in the main living area is about the best most can manage.
