True the colder it gets the drier the air but at say 8C I found my dessicated worked better. Until it packed up that is. I doubt they will last 20 years!Compressor, works fine. Don’t know how much damp you get at -4 deg?
I'm going to pinch that ideaYesterday I went up to the garage and my but puckered when I saw rust over the mill, filer, and drill press tables for the first time here. Never had the problem before, so I guess it's welcome back home to the UK. My neighbour has a strip of rubber based carpet attached to the lintel across his garage door opening, which is draped back over the roll up door to keep out most of the draft. It doesn't seem to have a negative affect on the operation of the door, so I think its time for me to do the same.
Here's a quick end view sketch.......

Underfloor heating cable might be worth a look as well.
Thanks John. Think I will have to have a chat with my Niece, as she has a large Iguana type lizard in a big fish tank, with I believe is heated with a similar or the same heating arrangement.
What tosh. It's 14 degrees here, I pour 2 litres a day out in these conditions, and the machine does that all winter. If really cold the humidistat stops it.Yes, one has to understand why the compressor gang quote specs for 32 Celsius and 85% humidity!! It is simply to hide the fact that below 20 Celsius the efficiency drops off alarmingly. They just do not quote any figures for 4 Celsius operation. Why? -‘cos they don’t cut the mustard at low temperatures. Good for summer use, mind.
My Meaco desiccant dehumidifiers are/were notoriously unreliable. I have three - at least two in working order at any one time with perhaps the other awaiting a dismantle to rectify the fault(s), whatever it might turn out to be. It is usually the little drive motor for the desiccant disc or something needs some lubricant. They were all cheap, as non-runners, from the net.
14C is still quite warm. What tosh. It's 14 degrees here, I pour 2 litres a day out in these conditions, and the machine does that all winter. If really cold the humidistat stops it.
No I don't sell dehumidifiers
