vans new but the heaters crap in it and takes ages to thaw out and demist its the worst ive had

I had this one in my old van. It's supposed to be the best of a bad bunch. It demisted a tiny bit but it wasn't worth it. The cable from the cig lighter socket got hotter than the heater which was handy to warm your hands on.

I've got one for the wifes mk1 Renault Clio, the heating system doesn't work, neither does the blower.

We tried it, it was rubbish.

She slings an electric heater on an extension cable in it for 15 - 20 minutes, sorted.

She used to have electric 12v hair straighteners, hair dryer and all that bought from a car boot.

It was all equally as dangerous.

But made us laugh.

Given most cigarette sockets I've seen are 10A that's 120W...

Barely enough to demist with 150w - we used to use a pair of 600w ones in the rally cars and they were still pretty slow but it didn't matter so much warming up in parc ferme.

Bearing in mind a normal cabin heater is more like 6kw on full tilt.

I have a couple of the old style electric screen demisters, like this;

That I got at Autojumbles.
Suction cup to the bottom of the screen and convection does the rest.
Worked to keep the front screen clear when the Disco heater fan burnt out and the rear screen before I repaired the HRW elements
Used them in a couple of other cars as well.

Don't bother, my Freelander used to take 10 minutes to warm up so I bought one and as above the cable gets hotter than the heater, recently found it again and binned it.

lol it has all the gizmos and air conditioning just a pain in the ass to warm up fast for the 1st 10 minutes. by then im at the jobs
