The heater in my 03 Berlingo, which has just been sold to a breaker, was amazing and demisted the screen very fast. If it's a new van take back to dealer and complain about poor performance.

I just use warm water, the vw van has a heated screen, best part of the van

I had one of those enclosed Chinese diesel heaters in the Disco, connected to the rear battery, exhaust through the floor and warm air piped to the front

Laws are put in place, so they are there if need be.

ford owns jaguar and land rover so they all use them / share the patent (or whatever)

I think (but could be wrong) jaguar had heated front screens first, then ford got them when they bought jaguar


EDIT: I googled it, seams rolls royce had them donkeys years ago (guessing different system not the same as modern one) - and the patent ford owned has run out now anyway so anyone can use the same tech

That's good news. I had an escort years ago with it and it was brilliant. I thought at the time that they should have licensed it because it was so good.

Brilliant bit of kit. Had one on my Discovery 2. Sadly the replacement Freelander 2 doesn't have one even though its 10 years younger. They should be fitted as standard to all cars.

Not really. The only interpretation is the one that comes from the courts in case law

In this case I left it on the dash for about 10 mins.
I usually use a 5L petrol can full of hot water but it's full of petrol at the moment
Hot water from the tap not boiling hot.

Does it de ice all the windows or only the front screen?

A good de icer is a zip lock/sealable plastic bag(IKEA do good thick ones) filled with hot water, just rub it over your screen and empty down drain when done. Defrosts even thick ice in seconds.
