what does annoy me though is you cant right click and edit the url's in a favorite

they started doing that with bookmarks in win 7 on chrome, they altered the window and it was difficult to edit them then my bookmarks went TU and I lost most of them, had to go and find them in folders and files create a spread sheet and re edit each one from a long list, and post them back into favorites all for nothing.

now ive lost a load of files cant find them anywhere, the search goes on

this new windows plays mind games with you all my files had gone, none on the desktop and so on so went into old windows users checked out various folders nothing there folder empty, went to the same folders in windows 10 no files, did a simple search for a text file and says they were in windows c users desktop yet they are not on the desktop but are in the folder when searched

Free because that's the way the market is going... i expect future versions will also be free to existing customers, probably with 7/8 as the baseline, but possibly for those with paid for OS 2-3 versions "out of date", my money is on the former

also because 8 is soo hated and so bad many people are considering "free" alternatives, this effectively steals the thunder from that one

Exactly. Giving it away free will cause a rapid uptake of Windows 10 and allow them to kill off the Windows 8 debacle.

I'm still on XP with most of the bugs ironed out.....why fix it if it ain't broke and the thing about further windows platforms is ....hackers will be leaving older versions of windows alone and concentrating on the newer versions to hack.

I suspect that's based on wishful thinking rather than fact, I'm afraid.

There are many, many documented exploits (aka security holes) on Windows XP and the bad guys go for what will gain most benefit for least money.

what I will say about 10 is that my laptop is running cooler while I'm on the web

I read the system requirements on the microsoft page to see why the upgrade didn't work. It said i needed 2gb free on the d-drive and i only had 1.58gb free out of 11.2gb. So i looked up how to free more space and it said to compress the contents. So i started to do this and it said it would take about an hour. came back 15 mins later and it said there had been an error and now i have 0gb free on the d-drive. Sorry i started tbh, anyone know how to fix this bloody thing or is it knackered ?

Problem also is the codebase between Win2K, XP, Vista, 7, 8,10 all share a lot...so a vulnerability in 10, is likely to be present in all those before it also...

there will always be exploits in os, what man can create he can also pick apart, with one exception so far, radioactive material they cant neutralize it yet

quick way is restore to todays date it should have created a restore point before you started

No not yet, my laptop is ready to be upgraded but the desktops are all on 7 but as said dont have the prefetch W requirement unless I go backwards to 32 bit. Madness

what I want to know is, 10 is free to upgrade for so long but what if your hard drive fails after the free period and you need to install again, if you only own 1 machine you are unable to download it as you have no OS to get on the web

Keep a copy on a stick ? it is only free for the life of THAT machine I think.

I finally got 10 to download this afternoon, third time lucky. I have to say the computer seems far faster and far faster to start up. With 7 when it started, it was often 20mins or more before it sorted itself out and became responsive, its far better now.

browsing on 10 while some software downloads.. had an issue downloading an update with edge that worked fine in IE11
