I dunno, I think the 9000 was the first car we ever worked on where replacing a £12 balljoint actually involved replacing a £190 lower wishbone.

No, it was just some random home conversion. It still looked mostly like a standard Kitten. Two things made me look closer at it (it was alongside me at a red light): firstly it seemed a bit higher off the ground than usual and secondly it was making a most un-Kitten-like rumbling noise
I think the V8 badge on the back was the clue. Actually now I come to think of it I've always just assumed it was a Rover engine, I guess it could have been a Ford, Chevy or Rolls unit!Never seen it since, but I always thought it'd be a good project. God only knows how you'd get it past the SVA nazis these days though...

I have some Raybans that I used for eye protection, if I clean them with a rag and it's like looking thought a wooly jumper.

Don't underestimate what some owners will pay top end restorers to work on their cars.....EVEN Ford's!
I think from memory the restoration cost at one point for this RS3100 stood at five figures (£36k from memory):

But when went recently for over £90k.....

When you think a 3.0S Capri went at Duxford this year for £55K I think. It doubled in around 2 years. Mystery to me though. It was sold as being Bodie's one from The Professionals. BUT it was openly stated it had been re-shelled! How it kept the original plate and didn't have to go through an IVA/SVA beats me. A good back story is above the law I guess!

I'm sure I read years ago that in the interests of penny-pinching the Capris in The Professionals were 1.6s with a V6 soundtrack dubbed afterwards

Pretty sure that's wrong. I know for a fact that when it started they were using BL cars. Doyle had the TR7, Bodie the Dolomite and Cowley an Ambassador from memory. It was BL who got all arsey, limiting what cars they got and wanting them back. Ford stepped in seeing an opportunity and the rest is history. The success of the programme is credited with keeping the Capri in production longer than originally intended. Early Ford's used we're MK2 Capris and Doyle's Escrote. Ended up with each having 3.0 Capris, Bodies in silver and Doyle's gold and Cowley's Granny.
They did I believe dub some screeching on corners and even "loosened" suspension components to get more effect around corners.
