A swag portaband table is a non essential, therefore if you want it, buy it, if you don't like the price, find an alternative.

Find me an alternative for my water supplier etc?

Agreed. That is fairly obvious, as I detailed in my post. Still quite expensive at half the price of the Swag. About the same number of parts. 209 for that is just too damn expensive! Probably more expensive than the bandsaws to which it would be attached, (or attached to it).

The legs on the swag one are thicker steel than the top on the other one , the top is 5mm on the swag one.

Most seem to think a mobile phone is an absolute essential, these days! Go back 40 years and lots simply used telephone kiosks - only as and when necessary. I expect that many prefer to retain their mobile phone than purchase essential foodstuffs. That is just a matter of priorities.

In the modern world I would argue it is pretty much an essential - trying to do anything thesedays seems to require either a mobile number for two factor authentication etc, or an app.

I can't recall the last time I saw a public pay phone or a phonebox that wasn't a defibrillator - and in any case nobody bothers calling anybody now.

I dislike doing anything on a 'phone if I can help it, but even I will admit that you are pretty screwed without one now.
Perhaps not quite yet impossible to get by without one, but it is getting very difficult and puts you at a significant disadvantage if you don't have one.

A bandsaw table probably doesn't count as an essential, but as I keep telling the other half every time she moans about the amount of tools - well isn't it funny how things always manage to get fixed....

The cost has a lot to do with volume of sales. If there isn't much demand for a product it pushes the production cost right up. The Makita official stand for their bandsaw was as much as the saw, so I'm going to guess the cost of stands is high due to low demand.
