I was all excited about trying this and, after watching countless youtube vids, it looks easy. Except it's not working for me.
It's new aly, with the protective sheet just pulled off and then cleaned with a stainless steel brush. Then I heat it and keep testing it with the rod, but the rod won't melt.
Even when I get to the point where the aly is buckling it's still doing nothing to the rod when I drag it along.
I then even tried heating the aly effectively to destruction through melting to see whether that would encourage the stick to weld but nope, nothing.
Here are the bits of aluminum, with the ends heated to destruction:
The middle of the bits were heated more gradually, testing with the rod every 10 seconds or so.
The bead on the end of the rod is me just making sure that the rod would melt with the butane/propane torch.
This is what I ordered: FEVERWORK 10pcs 2.4mm x 450mm Aluminium Low Temperature Welding Brazing Rods Aluminium Welding Wire: Amazon.co.uk: Kitchen & Home
Claims to have a melting temperature of 480C.
Did I just order the wrong rods?
