If the mast is failing at sea level only....surely the sensible thing to do is reinforce the existing mast with something that will keep it where it is! Why risk messing with it...clamp in place...tie it down etc job done....come back in 100 years.

Why not just blow it up?
According to wikipedia there is still 1400 tons of now unstable TNT still on it, would be spectacular if only a fraction of that went up and anything that didnt go bang would be well scattered.

Too close to land, too shallow and too much explosive on it....let sleeping dogs lie is the best approach.
Maybe in deep water it would be OK....but with 1400 tons of TNT and barely water to cover the mast....can you imagine how far it would throw the bits of the ship that are left!

Parm can you get the team any cheap PPE? anything out the bins or skips will do as we need to keep costs down but make sure the instructions is not in Chinese
