On my drier, which looks similar. There is a heating element with a series thermal cut out (non resettable) and the other one is a sensor which feeds back to the control PCB.

You say it is condenser drier, but it has heating elements, is it the type that uses a water feed to condense the water out if nthe warm air, or has it a tank that needs emptying? The ones that use a fine water spray to condense with need to have the condenser cleaned out internally, and they are notoriously Inneficient. What is the make and model?

So, on that last pair of photos, I think somthing is amis -
The last time I took the back off, I'm fairly sure both switch things showed continuity across their contacts. But on that occasion I put the back back on in puzzlement and it all seemed to be working.
On this occasion it's certainly not working and there is no continuity across the switch thing.
Now I may be remembering it wrong before but, either way, I should get continuity across that lump in the photo, right?

The multimeter is on the wrong range to check continuity. It should be set to the 200 Ohms range i.e. next to the diode check position. Check for continuity across the meter leads themselves first (they do themselves go open circuit; ask me how I know).
So the thermal switch with 240 V across it is open circuit. Is it the one with the Green spot, or the other one?
This dryer has a High and Low heat setting, so of the wires to the heater, Orange is probably common, and either one or both halves of the heater are energised for the Low/High setting via the Brown and Blue wires.

Yep. All reports I can find on the web say it should be closed. So that's the culprit.
Massive red herring in that the first time I opened up the unit it was closed. But evidently it has been fluctuating between open and close for a whole. And me thinking that rebooting the machine was making a difference... !
It's always the intermittent faults that are the hardest to track.
Seems I just need to replace that part. There are some white goods forum posts saying that they are fragile.

They have quite a few at Rapidonline, but they may not match temperature-wise.
They've got loads & loads of relays, though - should you ever need one!
Does the faulty one have any kind of clues on it?
Some kind of reference nimber maybe, or an indication of the temperature it's triggered at.
I'm assuming it's all 240v, but it wouldn't be hard to find out (carefully!) for sure.

It loks like the green spot thermal switch is rated at 130degC, and the one without the spot is 106degC. The first pair in Country Joe's link is compatible with the TCM65A dryer.

The replacement switches have to be fitted to the correct positions i.e. the orange wires go to the thermal switch with the green dot.

These ones are supposed to fit a TCM 65 A - not sure if the "A" makes any difference, though - but I suspect not.
At least it narrows it down to just 3 of them.
I did notice they're quite a bit pricier than the ones at Rapid's, mind you!
