Which Mig unit to buy.

Hi all, I have used Mig welders in the past but have just got myself a new project.

Have been searching the forum and the internet but can't decide on which machine to buy.

I am looking at a 180amp with a buget of £500-£700.

Any advice welcome.

Well the first thing to do is PM Weldequip (he's got us well trained) and see what he'd recommend for whatever your project is.

He sells the Portamig brand (among others) which you won't find on the internet but do a search here and you'll find many a very satisfied customer!

Out of interest, what project have you got planned?

Im modifying a Mitsubishi Pajero for more serious off road fun.

Looks like fun. You should be able to get an excellent welder for that sort of work in your price range. It'd be great if you could stick some photos in the Projects section and let everyone know how it goes.

I am one of those satisfied Portamig customers. Not had it long but very impressed with build quality and performance, and dealer service from Weldequip.

Me too, I think I'm still the owner of the largest Portamig sold to a forum member, mines a 361, 40-360A! Cost me a 'little' more than your budget though .
I would think something like the 215 (formerly 211) would suit you well, 20-215A with 12 voltage steps so very versatile and would be well within your budget. Go any bigger than that and you may lose the benefit of the low bottom setting, most machines of that size start at 30 or 40A.

mines a 300 amp unit but with a seperate wire feed unit. never seems to miss a beat
