Which low-end acoustic guitar?

I've got a Stingray and a Guild bass. However, over the past few years the arthritis in my hands have limited my playing enjoyment. The Stingray cost a lot at the time, and it was one of those "dream instruments" I just had to have, but the reality was that I never really got on with it. Fast forward a couple of years and a pawn shop opened up near by in town. They brought in quite a few guitars and basses, but I would often stop by to see what tools they had. One day I took a fancy to an old Guild Pilot bass, so plugged it in and had a go. Wow, it talked to me, and fit like it was made for me. The head stock was boogered up and the price was cheap, but I put it back on the rack. Over the next several weeks I stopped by the shop to see what was new in the tool department, but always spent a few minutes plucking on the bass. The shop owner told me "you want that bass", and said he'd drop the price to $200.oo so I couldn't pass it up. I got some quilted maple veneer from a friend and refinished the headstock to match the body, made and installed a new brass nut, and the rest is history. Its the most comfortable bass I ever played. Guess the moral of the story is, go with what feels right, even if it isn't the most expensive or coolest axe out there. I still have both instruments but glad I chose the Guild, or should I say, I'm glad the Guild chose me.

Good call, saying go with the 'most comfortable' guitar.
Unfortunately it has to compete for real estate with my beer belly, so thin-ness is paramount, to be able to strum and look at my fingers without being bent double like Quasimodo..
You have brought my secret desires out in the open..I want an electric bass now as well!
4-string bass is the driving force of the song, the diesel engine providing the propulsion, the beat of the propeller at sea, people take it for granted but ..if it stops, it gives them pause for thought..

It's a bit more than you wanted to spend at £250, but this looks great value. The 'used very good condition' one from Amazon warehouse for £188 seems a good deal too.

Parlour size, solid top, decent pickup, quality carry bag.

The mahogany one was £200 a few months back, then the price went up. They are £330 plus elsewhere. I haven't tried one myself but I'd be surprised if it was disappointing. You can always send it back to Amazon. If we weren't already awash with guitars I would be buying this lol.

a £99 squire

Got one cheap from an oddments shop. The soudboard is bellied and gives high action. Want to flatten it to get it as reasonble standby. Anyone done this?

I've got a '70's Eko jumbo acoustic.

Sold mine on eBay. All the rage in 70's. 20 Guineas then. Apparently the lack of volume was due to the heavy lacquer. Odd for such a big guitar. Buyer said he'd first strip it off then sort out the bellying.

The Hummingbird is the only acoustic I've got that isn't 'bellied' . Obviosly the bracing needs to be investigated.

Guy I used to go to college with as a 16 year old apprentice, saved every penny of his meagre wages, never drank, never smoked, and bought a £450 Fender Stratocaster brand new.

First thing he did was send it off to have the 'frets filed and lowered', and some other apparently de rigeur mods.

Oddly enough he popped up on my Facebook yesterday, Neil Fraser. He's got a lot less hair than he had back in the 70's, but seems to have done quite well for himself.
