if you mean the differential then yes they are the worst axle ever fitted to a truck for 1 wheel slipping out..if mine is empty it can get stuck on a grass verge if i have hopped up on one side

I went through a similar process a couple of years ago. Was trashing my Wifes Focus carrying building materials in/on it, so decided a Pickup would be useful.
But yes 2WD are few and far between and not particularly cheap.
In the end I picked up a 55 plate 2WD L200 2.5TD for a bit more than I really wanted to pay off Ebay. Not pretty, but solid enough, does all I ask, and still going strong.
Does not do stellar mileage just to and from Builders yards, garden centres.

Ill soon be looking for a 2WD pickup to use for a few months to a year for house renovation work. I’m looking for something simple, solid, reliable, decent payload, fairly low for loading rubble from a wheelbarrow and that I can move on easily when I’ve finished with it. Don’t need loads of power or flashy stuff and definitely no 4WD.
Suggestions please!

not sure what car you have available (tow capacity) but if i were you i'd be looking at a (smallish) trailer.

i bought one and i wished i got one years ago. You might not even want to part with it later on, but if you do, it'will probably keep its value pretty good.


I haul all sorts of goods with it, from firewood to trips tot the tip during springcleaning.

No hassle with MOT or a trashed low budget moneypit.

When you're done with your reno, i'm betting you won't even want to part with it

.......and as a bonus.......you may even rent it out to friends for half the money it would cost them normally...just to cover extra wear 'n tear......little workshop/beer cash never hurt nobody, right?

I was offered a 2wd isuzu dmax single cab when i was looking for one. It wasnt for me though without the 4x4 system the towing capacity dropped from 3.5 ton to 2.5 ton so wasnt worth it. Love my dmax dual cab in every way its an amazing bit of kit.

I have a disco 2 for rubble dumping at the tip Def not 2wd but it's shifted some serious amounts of crap, also no permits or paying

Plenty of cheap ford ranger 2wd usually ex council well maintained about a grand now
Loads of parts about for the but they are pretty reliable and they don't seem to of had as harder life's as the 4wd work spec ones have had
