I'd be interested to hear from anyone on here who owns a Tesla...I think their charging network is well sorted out so I can imagine that removes a huge amount of the hassle maybe?

Also what's their pricing like...I was paying £20 to add 100 miles at a rapid charger. My hybrid can do 100 with about £10 of petrol!

One guy in work has a Tesla (had it for 3 years) and at the time it was about the only long distance option. He gets cheaper pricing at super chargers because he has a Tesla - I think.

The other guy has a polestar (had it about 12 months) and uses the Tesla network for charging when out and about. It’s obviously more expensive than home charging, but he did say as long as he’s not charging out more than ~50% of the time then it works in his favour. I seem to recall it’s comparable with filling up with petrol, but I couldn’t swear to that as I’ve not used it myself.

I quite like the look of the Renault mobilize duo for nipping to the shops....here in London it's mostly 20mph roads. If they could get the huge SUVs off the roads I'd probably have one!

...living in Wales, driving is an absolute nightmare, and to be avoided at all costs. From the spine shattering roads to the stooopid 20mph draconian measures, speed cameras, average speed cameras, speed humps, appalling driving standards, cars too big for the roads and their owners lack of spacial awareness....need I go on.....whats not to like
Nipping to the shops, Id rather walk, anything slightly further I take the bicycle, then anything heavier I need to carry I'll reluctantly take the car or van, so most of my journeys are less than 20 miles round-trip.
Quite partial to taking the motorbike on a 150+mile jaunt on a nice sunny day, purely for pleasure and as far away from traffic as I can get, usually B-road stuff.
Longer trips to Europe in the van can be a 800 miler down to the Alps a few hundred pottering around down there and 800 back. Find it a completely different experience, as soon as you cross the channel, as long as you steer clear of the major towns/cities in Europe its a pleasure, stress levels only rise when you cross back and are driving on the left again.
Have done a few North American /Canadian driving holidays, again an absolute pleasure covering thousands of miles in a short period of time.
Have not read the full thread on the EV angle, but Im quite attached to my squeezed dinosaur burning vehicles, and in no rush to be coerced into one by government overreach. Anything that is ruthlessly promoted by government back initiatives I tend to avoid until I cant. Not driving an EV is not going to force Polar bears into needing swimming lessons no matter what the BBC tells people.
Im happy to stand next to a small pump for 5mins and get "full range" and be off again or not back for a few weeks to fill-up.The thought of pulling into an EV charging station, waiting around twiddling my thumbs is not for me.
Is it just me or do most if not all EVs appear soulless bland SUVs? The sound my neighbours Tesla makes when reversing into the drive reminds me of a vacuum cleaner .....give me a nice flat 6 Porsche, Audi 5 cyl sound or a Ducati Desmo at 9000rpm any day.
Eventually I might not be able to get a diesel or petrol vehicle, but it wont be for want of trying....hopefully I'll be nearing the end of driving by then so wont really care too much. Whatever happened to freedom of choice

Me and my dirty diesel 150,000 mile van in the Alps.....no traffic lights, speed-humps when you arrive, or military EV charging strategy undertaking to get there....bliss

Buy a Tesla and fit one of these:

With an under bonnet speaker you could save the planet AND annoy your neighbours.

I wonder if the sound loosens knickers like a real Ferrari, Lambo, Capri etc?

I think it’s a pastiche of one. Looked quite funky actually, but totally impractical. If I had the money and the need for a city runabout I’d think about it, but I think they are more of a novelty than an actual practical vehicle.

Maybe for some people though?

I bought a new to me car in january as I retired in april,
its done 2000 miles since,
if I need to nip into town, her electric car runs for free and can park it in half a space,
running the dogs about is done by the freelander,
beginning to wonder if I should have just got a better/ newer freelander,

at work I did 70 -80 miles a day, and often 150 or so on a weekend day

I doubt I’ve done even 2000 miles in my Mondeo since MOT last December, but I’ve done 11,000 on my bike since March.

Riding m/cycles on continental trips always made me revel in how good it was, and wonder why I bothered in the UK (& now I don't).
The sense of freedom you used to have of travel in the UK has been (deliberately, and worse to come) killed off.

I’ve always said, the worst part of any bike trip to the mainland is returning to U.K. roads. I did about 6 trips in the years just before covid, and every time returning home I’d get out of the tunnel, or ferry port, up to the main roads…..and it would be roadworks, contraflow, lowered speed limits, solid queues for miles….. soul destroying. 220 miles to get home, M40 - M6 and I’d already be thinking about when I could go again. Then Covid struck, and I’ve been nowhere since really.

Last trip I did was in November, 5 years ago this month. A bit chilly, until over the waters, but no tourists, no traffic, cheaper hotels etc.

Sat in the cafe the other night, bitter cold outside. I went outside to attend the call of nature and on my return I commented how my bike already had a layer of frost all over it.

My mate, who’d wimpishly driven down in his VW ID5 EV, whipped out his phone and turned on the climate control in the car, set it to 22°, ready for when he left. Jammy git

White over this morning, er indoors put the heating on 5 mins before she left and went out to defrosted windscreen and heated cabin. That is a proper plus side.

The most common EVs do seem to be SUVs of a size that dwarf cruise ships when a lighter smaller sized vehicle makes more sense for an electrically powered vehicle.

Not a fan of the fake noises they put on them but I do love the noise of an electric motor ramping up under load be it in a car or a train (prefer the sound of a two stroke diesel with the turbos spooling up think class 37s) I get what you mean though about the sound of a performance ICE, not so much a rattly old ford focus diesel though.

Interesting discussion with my son who was supposed to be finally getting his GTR back this weekend. But strangely it's developed a lamda sensor issue and a steering rack leak. It's only been away for a couple of years on and off.
So...we were talking about him being sick of it all and he had checked out some EV that was £199 deposit and £199 per month on a 3 year lease. But when I asked about charging 2 EV's he reckoned it would throttle everything back if they had two EV's.
So what happens when a family of 4 have 4 EV's. How do they all get charged?

My farmer neighbour has a few EVs, originally they had 3no 7kw chargers, one on each phase but have recently upgraded to some commercial style chargers that will load balance if more than one is on charge
