heres my home made cable stripper
http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum/threads/home-made-scrap-cable-stripper.20137/

Well sorry but your dead wrong on this one Richard. It was all regular household type stuff and although I can't accurately remember I did by a decent rifle of the back of that and a fair bit of scrap ali. I certainly don't chuck wiring in the bin now .Have you seen the cores on telecom cable? There is next to no copper in it. They might have a machine to strip it but they ain’t giving you in stripped cable value for it. They are fussy with unstripped cable because of the amount of copper in its cores. A lump of twin n earth they’ll weigh you in and other cables like appliance cables etc but they are not going to give you anything for unstripped tele com cable and scart leads.
Unstripped cable is worth about a 1/3 of stripped cable at best. When you say well worth while for two bags full I reckon you made a tenner at best.
I weigh in our scrap telecoms cable, it's worth doing. The cores are only small but there are 200 of them in 100 pair cable. You try hoisting a 100m drum of 100pr onto a cable stand and you soon realise there is a fair amount of copper in it.Have you seen the cores on telecom cable? There is next to no copper in it. Erm batteries are paying good money atm £4.50 per Kg round here, well worth saving them up then weighing them in yourself![]()
CCA is copper coated aluminium, horrible stuff. There is an infinitesimally small amount of copper in CCA which a lot of network and video cables are these days.
Exactly unfortunately cheap skates like it, that and iron cored RG6 RF cable which even has aluminium braid.CCA is copper coated aluminium, horrible stuff.
I know they take unstripped cable mate. It’s the tele coms cable and scart leads I was debating. I know the lot down our spot wouldn’t pay the same cash for that stuff as they would for unstripped twin and earth.I asked about stripping and they said they would not be keen but would take it off me because I was account anyway. Bothered about taking stolen stuff you see thier kit can separate copper from any insulation mega fast
I burn the insulation of any scrap cable I have & my scrap yard takes it no problem and pays the same price as scrap copper pipe.
Don't remember mentioning any type of cable when you quoted my post. Just two dumpy bags ofI know they take unstripped cable mate. It’s the tele coms cable and scart leads I was debating. Of course they will prefer to take unstripped cable than stripped. Nothing to do with it being nicked. The reason they prefer unstripped is they can pay you £1 kg rather than £3.60.
They’ll make more money giving you rock bottom prices and stripping it them selves.
This is why I’d of thought tele coms cable would not be paid for the same. Alright 200 cores yes I see that but much smaller tele coms cable with far less cores.
It’s only got about 6 strands per core.
Oh well we could debate it all night but our scrap yard would likely reject it or pay less for it unless it was a bit bundled in with a load of proper cable.

It’s only worth money if you strip it and I can’t imagine the copper out of scart leads and telecom cable is worth the hassle and effort of stripping it out.

Yes I’ve weighed in unstripped cable but
You’ll be lucky to get anything for unstripped tele com cable. There is next to nothing in it.
It very much depends on the cables copper content as to whether they’ll pay on it.
Really. I thought I was quite specific
I wouldn’t be bothered to strip it for the time and effort it would take to strip those tiny cores. and such a small return.I can't see why you got so much flak on this. I think people jumped the gun when they saw the word 'cable'. It's true too, Telecom cable doesn't have that much in it.
Wow that’s a boy init.granulator
ive got a carrier bag of old cables, scart leads, power transformer and telecom cable to throw away.
Where can I recycle or dispose of this properly?
granulator
I made and ran one of those, complete setups that was one of my jobs at scrapyd, with the setup we could produce a ton or more an hour, of clean bright copper granules out of swa, less on thinner multi strand etc. A ton then was £7/800 up to maybe 1k depending on prices , We had a literal mountain of chopped plastic 20 metres tall that used to get used by horse people for paddocks etcWow that’s a boy init.
That’s gonna have to chomp some cables to pay for its self.
