Where to buy Borax

I thought it was supposed to be dirt cheap? eBay prices are nuts, where do I get some borax for use as a flux?

I'm guessing this is for use as flux for forge welding? I've only bought it once a few years back & from memory that was penhydrate via Amazon for about £10 + P&P the size of the container it came in would have held about 1L of water.

It is quite likely I am talking absolute tosh but from memory it's categorized by it's water content (hydrate), so it's sold as pen....(5) deca...(10)

If my memory serves me right I think I looked it up on eBay recently & found the stuff quite easily. Maybe if you want loads of the stuff you should call up your local bladesmith who might sell you some? I'm rambleing now...

I usually buy it in the local hardware shop. Last bought some 2 years ago.
Tescos used to flog it.
I went to the hardware shop to get some a few months ago. The shop had just changed hands and
the bloke proudly produced it when I asked for it, I had to ask as he had rearranged everything, it's
not in the same little box and when I got home I realised it's borax substitute!
I didn't try it and bought some proper borax on ebay.

It's used for cleaning and thats where you find it in tescos.

My daughter uses borax to make slime, I use bags of laundry starch few quid a time. Depends if you want your borax pure!

It's hard to get, supermarkets don't sell it anymore and pretty sure chemists don't either, while I don't think it's illegal it's certainly frowned on. I bought my last lot off ebay because I was struggling to get it anywhere else. Mostly what you do see on the high street is borax substitute.

Also better to search for sodium tetraborate decahydrate it's chemical name rather than Borax then your sure what your getting the right stuff.

You can't unless your a company ! EU based legislation
Supposedly it has an effect on fertility (rather lack of it). Any how I think that's bs because granny used it in her washing daily and had blooming loads of kids practically one a year

No it is now illegal to sell to non companies (apparently its OK to become seedless as long as you do it while paying taxes)
