When is a 1 mm disk not 1 mm !!!!!

I just started using a batch of 100 Silverline "1 mm" cutting disks and thought - hang on these are cutting slowly and leaving a wider kerf than I'm used to.

I measured the disks - the THINNEST was 1.55 mm and some were over 1.8 mm. The seller assures me that they are genuine not clones, and is taking them back for a refund so is doing the decent thing - but has anyone else noticed 1mm disks that are far thicker than they should be?

Silverline, say no more.

1mm is 1mm, no more no less.
When you buy a drill to drill a certain size they are undersize a fraction to leave than anticipated drill size hole.

100 Silverline discs to get through. What a horrible thought, still I don't suppose it will take that long.

This story doesn't surprise me because in my experience, just about everything Silverline sell is rubbish. I'm not a fan of cheap grinder discs at all, having tried a few.

Much better, safer, and probably cheaper, to stick to the leading brands, Dronco, Flexovit, Klingspor, Norton, etc. They last longer, they work better and they are far less inclined to break up. Most welding suppliers sell decent grinder discs.

They've all already said what i was thinking. I've still got a Silverline ratchet going cheap. It has the remainder of a lifetime warranty...Grrrr

Second vote for the weldequip ones. And their abrasive discs.

You will get through 100 silverline cutting discs in no time! they're made of something softer and less abraisive than corrugated cardboard.

Well for the past 6 years I've had a Silverline Vinyl pipe cutter and have cut literally hundreds of 20 & 25 mm blue mdpe water pipe and 20 mm plastic conduit with it. It was a bit sticky so I pulled it apart a couple of days ago, and due to ham fistedness managed to break the diecasting as I re-assembled it. I quite cheerfully bought another yesterday for the princely sum of £9 including postage, so not all their kit is rubbish
