Back in '69, I towed a 26ft yacht from St.Tropez to Poole. Used an Austin Champ which I picked up for £45. It managed 9mpg; but two star and a lot cheaper then. Made the trailer too. Quite an interesting trip, to put it mildly..
Without the trailer, the Champ was a hoot to drive. Unlike a landie, it had rack and pinion and you could drift it on round abouts. Flat out with the screen down was good for over 90mph. Even the London taxis steered clear of you
