I well recall working under them, dirty horrible places...

The steel was off for servicing the one where I worked, I was given the job of shovelling a foot of sludge & grot from the pit, yes they are dirty horrible places, even with the top off it wasn’t nice. When you look at the girders & steelworks underneath, you wouldn’t believe they could be accurate to within a pound or two.

The last engine I swapped in the street was the one in the girlfriends fathers HC Viva some forty three years ago, it conked out near Birmingham and he had no AA/RAC cover so it was fix it or scrap it where it was . Muggings here got roped into the task, all I could get my hands on at the time was a Bedford Beagle LC engine so that's what it got, stripped as much weight off it as I could then lifted it out. Lots of grunting/swearing at the time because of the amount of gear that needed swapping over but got it done and he drove it home. A layby is not a nice place to perform an engine swap

years ago i took my road tow mobile compressor and blasting gear round father in laws street and sandblasted his car on the road . half the neighborhood came out to watch .the place looked like redcar beach when i finished . no one complained

bt bought 6 new trannies and were locked in a compound. they went to start them after the Christmas holls and they wouldn't start . reason being they had no engines and gearboxes in them

I wonder what, in 50 or so years, the reminiscing will be about? "I can remember when we had to carry our smartphones around with us instead of getting vital information streamed to our implants" ?

And I'm only half-joking on that, I firmly believe that at some point in the future all newborns will have a microchip implanted in them, which carries their details as are kept now. These will be in a software format which cannot be overwritten and will be visible/readable to scanners installed in public buildings, shopping malls.....in fact everywhere as we know commerce hates to be left out ]. It'll be sold to the public as "Public safety/anti-terror measures". Cue 'hidden' pregnancies etc, but the software will detect 'unregistered' citizens and there'll be no end of questioning......
