Thanks.
I noticed a V5C document shown as part of the description of sale for a bike online. It states that " This document is not proof of ownership " so is there other paperwork I need to acquire ?
In the US, a single paper "Pink Slip" is all that is needed for proof of ownership and transfer of ownership. An identical white copy is provided as the yearly registration form, which has to be kept with the vehicle.
Yes, the V5C document states who the keeper is. The keeper is usually the owner as well; an exception might be when a finance company has lent against the value of a vehicle. This is easily checked online, and is unlikely to be an issue buying an old motorbike; here's one provider: https://hpicheck.com/?gclid=CjwKCAj...p6b0NZuFYNIitR7kSF36oSb8DMIkARoxoCq8IQAvD_BwE. Unlike a lot of US states, we don't have a system of vehicle titles issued by a local DMV in the UK.
