I've been working on these wheel rims, and have spotted something -
You can see the valve stem holes?
On the acid dipped rim, it's clear that the valve hole has been moved.
I don't much understand it, as the fillet on the wheel nut holes implies the mounting orientation, and the original stem would have been on the rear.
Irrespective, my concern is the position of the new stem hole -
(That's the inside face, in case it's not clear)
And the outside face -
It seems a crazy place to put them for tubeless tyres (which, the profile of the rim would suggest) as there doesn't seem to be enough flat around the hole to seat the valve stem on.
Is this a concern? I don't know much about these things, so, maybe, it's plenty, but the bend is pretty much on the edge of the hole, hence my concern.
I only noticed this once id painted one of the rims and would rather not mess about now, but it is bothering me.
If I fitted tubes, does the valve on the tube come out on the narrowest part of the ID (I mean in the center of the tube "core") or is it at an angle?
Ie would the stems on tubes line up?
Id rather not fit tubes now anyway, so that would just be a work around. Ideally id like tubeless.
