and there's the key phrase, you and I would, but there are those that are more ruthless and thinking only of the pound signs at the end, and have no emotional attachment, not considering the life associated to those tools, just machines / pounds to them...

A specialist offered me £500 for my big Harrison M400 in part-ex the other day. I was speechless. Needless to say, they aren't getting any of my business.

Its a shame the mills and definately the lathe is too big for me i just want to get a fair price for the stuff

i think £600-£800 seems fair for the Victora mill it wasnt used too much just hogging off material before finishing in the bridgeport

Machinery is usually sold bare or with the minimal basic accessories originally provided. The accessories, tooling and cutters are where the real value is, and are easily boxed up for removal.

That’s what I was thinking looking at the pics. Clear out all the tooling and accessories, accept the £800 and then sell off the bits as and when time allows. I bet you would tot up a fair price compared to throwing them in.

Don’t forget eBay will entail 10% selling fee and 4% for PayPal. Get a few pics and get them up on here first. I’m sure the rules whilst they should be adhered to, if you are actually taking pics/advertising/ arranging the sale would be near enough complying.

Get it all in, spraying liberally as you pack in with WD-40 or better still ACF-50 - that'll stop surface corrosion whilst in there.

There are other options to selling on ebay. Join model engineering and other related forum's as an example, where old school equipment and tooling is highly sought after. £800.oo is a drop in the bucket where desirable tooling is concerned and the investment can be recovered quickly enough; also I would be confident there would be a lot of interest here. Hopefully, if you can find storage for the majority of the smaller stuff your friend should be able to get a fair return for the effort involved to move what he can.

theres a massive rotary milling table maybe 18" across he said £100 that seems a bit cheap too

I meant make him an offer for everything, stick it all in the container [hence the reference to 'packing it all in'] then you can list it here a few bits at a time.
