What’s going on with Royal Mail?

Often the first I see of it is when it's behind the door, with no 'en route' stages as it progresses through the system.

You'll only get detailed tracking info on TRACKED 24/48 and (I think) RMSD items.
No tracking info on anything else, including Signed for, just a scan on delivery.
