What tree species is this ?

Ok tree huggers and possibly @8ob and other arborist types ...
I've foraged this fallen tree for fire wood , it's on a river bank currently (well the rest of it is .... )
It's about 100 yards to the road so gotta wheel barrow the rest to footpath then road/car ...

So after it's seasoned for a year should be good to burn but what is it , it's not willow or anything else I recognise ?!

My guess is beech. Hopefully someone who knows what they're talking about will be along soon.

It could be Beech, Sycamore has smooth bark & some of it has heavily fissured bark so it could be Alder or Aspen.

The smooth bark and the way it has split says Beech to me.

Touch it with an angle grinder and see what colour the sparks are?

Nah definatly not beech I'm afraid ,not alder . Aspen ? Ash? Not sure ..... wouldn't know one if I fell over it

I'm there tomorrow I'll take another pic or two ,not willow . No leaves has been on its side at least a year I think .

Im rubbish at identifying trees.... but it does look quite a bit like the light colour but fairly dense wood of a tree I cut down in the back garden - which was a Eucalyptus.
(Mate had the wood for his fire, and said that while it took a bit to get going, but once burning it gave good heat and burned slowly) .

"An IKea tree kit". I always wondered just how those sneaky Scandinavians ended up with so many trees!

The thin stuff looks like Ash with the white wood and smooth bark and the thick one looks like Beech that's been stood a while, the bark does crack up like that with time.

Pretty sure that’s ash, especially looking at the split piece on the left of the photo. Definitely not beech - the bark is wrong, the grain is wrong and beech doesn’t split like that. But whatever it is as long as it burns is all that counts, especially these days.
