What tool do I need?

Not surprised you're having problems,no one else noticed its decking the OP is cutting,got to remember that stuff is injected(sort of) with a preservitive that when cut/heated clogs a blade,its not your normal pine you know

Never come across such an issue and I work with tantalised timber day in day out.

Last time I was decking both mitre saw and track saw went through it like butter.

Cross cutting or ripping?
Depends on your blade i guess,but its happened to me,same with cutting laminate flooring,your standard normal blade is a waste of time cutting that,soon becomes dull
As @brightspark said,it being damp dont ease things either

For laminate flooring I use a 60tooth blade no issue.

Either. Cross on the chop saw and rip on the Tracksaw with a cross cut blade no issues.

Thats what i'm trying to say,you have the right blades and saw for the jobs intended,i'm saying if you dont then problems happen
If you've got some cheap mickey mouse blade that came with a cheap saw etc you know that its only going to cut certain stuff,hit it with something away from the norm,then your flogging a dead horse

Had to trim a load of green out rafters in place last week with a multitool. Some muppet fitted an angled facia before the soffits and rafters were protruding below it. Burn like mad and had to mask up but couldn't get any other tool inside it.

If you just want sheer grunt i have got the biggest erbauer and its brilliant i i ught it as it was the cheapest of that size and wanted it for doing some timber framing it will happily cut oak at full depth without slowing down and is nuch more solid than the evolution i ilso have

I have a milwaukee battery saw, rips 2 inch joist length ways no problem at all. Not to bad on the battery either.

Far better than my mains black and decker, though it has been well and truly abused.

For cross cutting I have an evolution chopsaw, abused, used to cut anything and everything, did some 5mm wall box the otherdsy, didnt like it, and for 2nd fix wood work I have a makitta one, quality piece of kit.

Well yeah. Thought that was obvious. We stated that in the first post. Blade makes the difference not the tool.

A cheap saw with a decent blade trumps a decent tool with a crap blade.

So you'll admit your a cheapskate and should buy better blades.

Spend a fortune on timber blades every year but need decent clean cuts first time

It's a C24 6 x 2 " joist and bone dry. I took it with one cut at max depth...
Maybe that little saw ain't so bad then!
I've been thinking about a bigger saw and today's trials makes me think I should just do it.
I've got a whole house to referb!

Decent tools earn their money even DIY. My mains black and d cker is probably 30 years old now. Bit rought, bit noisey, but will still rip a 2 inch joist or a piece of floor board etc. But the battery gear is so much easier for me as alot of what I do is outside well away from a plug.

As said earlier buy decent blades, and dont cut nails and screws with them.

The other tool Id not be with out for house stuff is an electric plane, superb for doors and stuff.

Multi tool I'd struggle to give up.
Gets me out of so many fixes when access is difficult.

I've got some silverline chisels I use inaproprietly to save my 3 sets of decent chisels being damaged.

I had a silver line 1/4" chisel that I kept for rough work.
I bent it opening a paint tin.

I replaced it with a roebuck one - which is actually pretty good for a beater. it's getting a bit short now - i keep regrinding it because I can't bring myself to leave it with a notched blade. Main use recently is chasing out plaster to fit sockets. (it's a 20mm) and I bought a paint tin opener!.
