What thread did older (mid 90's) disposable CO2 bottles use?

I've go an old welder that I'm trying to get back up and running and the gas regulator has failed so I grabbed this one off Amazon

That looks nothing like what I received which is the attached pic (I assume the same spec)

It has a 9mm internal diameter, same as the old regulator but the threads are crossing and it won't tighten on the bottle (new thread looks coarser then the old one). If I can get a cheap adapter to let me use the rest of the bottle I'd rather do that than just dump it but would anyone know what I should be looking for? I'm uk based by the way.

dump the disposable bottles and go for pub gas if you can do or actually get

Thanks for the reply Gaz but the welder is a little 100 amp hobby jobbie for occasional use so I'm trying to get it running without too much additional cost.

What's pub gas out of interest?
