what price a surface table?

They are good but I'm finding it pretty annoying not having box section around the edges which was easy to clamp to. Tables like what @sako243 has posted only have a small lip around the outside and its as-cast.

Still on the lookout for tables like @pressbrake1 had last year with all the holes in them, out of Fords if I remember correctly.

Once you've got a load of 28mm holes drilled in them you won't want use ordinary clamps even my carvers which i used to rave about don't get used much nowadays

I was given both of these. I passed the smaller one on to a forum member and the big one will sit there until I am dead as it is too heavy for me to move!

right place right time , it really is becoming a theme ,, maybe a thread on its own.

so its worn and not fit for purpose or whoever slung it didnt know what it was worth if its in good nick

to some its just a lump of rust ,,,

to others its better than gold.

It still had the last calibration sticker on it.... from 2011 it is in good condition and probably could be revitalised. I needed a welding table and it was free. They were lumping a load of steel into a skip and said take what you want. So I did

I would say a lot of good stuff is getting disposed of now not because its worn out just becauses theres machines than can do the job faster

A hour or 2 for someone with a surface table and a load of measuring equipment to tell you if something is within spec or 2 minutes for a machine to bounce a few lasers off it and confirm the same thing!

may be so in industry but for the average guy in home workshop who hasn't got thousands to spend on fancy gear to do the odd one off job a qualty plate is ideal

a knackered old one is still better than two sleepers on a pile of breeze blocks ,,, and manys a day Ive been glad of that too.

I am curious now as to whether Arther wanted one as a welding table or to carry on using it as a surface table. . I use a small one like MOL’s as a jig plate.

The smaller one you gave me was not exactly light to carry around

I've got the surface as good as I need for small cylinder heads etc, splodged a bit of paint on the base, will oil and cling film top when not in use.

Had a 2ft square surface table out of the college workshop ten years ago, was in my mates yard, couldnt find a buyer despite trying to flog it several times.
Gave up & weighed it in.
