Don't exclude the Elliot Omnimill if you want something good and heavy with a small footprint. Different to most other small mills.

It's a Deckel clone, same as my TOS but the Thiel looks more refined going by the pics. That one looks on the face of it to be a good example and I bet it's got a way to go on the price yet.

I've an Edgwick horizontal mill available that has a vertical head with it as well. Bought on a whim as I'd enjoyed using the ones at the engineering club but since I've had it all over done is cut...

It's a Deckel clone, same as my TOS but the Thiel looks more refined going by the pics. That one looks on the face of it to be a good example and I bet it's got a way to go on the price yet.

The Thiel looks nice, I think they had a similar design in their own right around the same time as Deckel, so not exactly a clone, more a twin - I think they ended up as part of Deckel.

Smaller than a bridgeport could be a bit tricky, tend to be very popular and the spindle options are never the best - not that R8 is either.

Off the top of my head:
Elliott omnimill as previously mentioned.
Town Woodhouse
Beaver Model A
Possibly an Adcock and Shipley 1ES with the bridgeport head mod?

I think its same company as Herbert. I've never had the chance to play with a mill so know bugger all about them.

Its single phase oddly - would have thought it would have been 3phase with the size of the thing.

I did spot a Tom Senior for sale near me in Carmarthen (Facebook) for perhaps £400. Quite happy to collect and palletise but @fizzy might be a better option.

I suppose mounting it on wheels would be an option.

That's a lovely looking Centec!
I had a Harrison Horiz/Vert for about 30 years. Nice and sturdy. Table 30x8 inches and quite a small footprint.
30 International taper in both spindles.
My only gripe was the amount of daylight between the vertical head and the table, but I think most of the smaller machines have this problem.

I have a Harrison universal, the quality is very good. It's a lovely bit of engineering wouldn't hesitate in recommending them.

Seeing how much Centecs sell for you could have the Thiel and change!
Keep it on a pallet. Buy a cheap pallet truck. You can move it back and fore.

Not sure what happened to the Thiel for sale on ebay, the seller ended the listing early. I emailed a few questions on Saturday and got no reply.

I'd been keeping an eye on this since it listed, contacted the seller last week regarding shipping. Didn't really answer my questions but advised I could have it there and then for £2400 incl delivery. So I guess that's what happened...but not to me!
