What Led flood light

I need a new one, big enough to light the garden 10M long byt 5m wide
the one I have froom toolstation has strted tripping the RCD probably wet inside!

See my thread on these LED floodlights - I've got / had one in my workshop which is 11x5m and is more than bright enough (100W).

My parents have had a vTAC with Samsung LEDs (that's the crucial bit) outside on their highest barn for about 6 years now facing the prevailing weather and they're the highest point until you hit South America. The floodlights still as good as the day they put it up there.

You can get them from Amazon or the likes of CPC. Just make sure they have the Samsung LEDs in them - if they're not stated then they won't be Samsung.

cheers mate they are cheap enough, I will get this one down have a look and get one ordered If this cant be repaired it stays on for 10 seconds or so then trips the rcd!

You can get PIR ones as well - if you switch them on and off twice in quick succession I think it is they stay on like a normal floodlight so might be a useful alternative.

it been shagged out and dont work just keep the receipt ;. i date all the ones i fit with a felt tip pen in the joint box because i fit that many and where purchased from

Well I've had three of the PIR version up on my place which gets hammered by the weather reasonably often (South West Wales ) and they've been up there 2 years with no issues so far.

I installed PIR lamp in my porch, in 1988. It's still on the same bulb. Having said that, it's bound to fail now

they dont make bulbs lie they use to mate

I’ve just put up two ledvance units, one with PIR and one without. Both are 20w. One at the front of the house and one in the back garden. The one at the front lights up our drive way which is 15m 8m. It’s a soft light, you can walk towards it but you don’t get blinded

Something I've been considering, replacing the bulkhead light which doesn't light up the full front path at the house. It's tricky coming back home in the dark as the porch is almost completely dark - difficult to see the door lock, esp if you're carrying shopping etc.

I bought a couple of Aldi specials last year: 10W, under a tenner each, white finned alloy case with a wall bracket, no PIR.
Umpteen thousand hours' life, so they claim. I think I got about 4 hours out of the first one. I'd have taken them both back but couldn't find a receipt and didn't want to look like a moaning cheapskate, even if I am one
So out of curiosity I pulled the duff one apart. The 'working parts' (for you ex-squaddies) are a metal plate with the LED chips and sundry components on one side. The plate is fixed to the alloy housing with screws and some grey glop which is presumably supposed to act as a heat-transfer paste. It peeled-off more like silicon sealant.
I took the second one apart, same glop, so I cleaned it all off and reassembled it using the white Dow Corning compound we use on electronics power devices.
It's about a dozen hours in so far, so too early to throw a (well-lit) party, but it wouldn't be altogether surprising if it was as simple as the wrong 'ponge' being used.
