Now retired but used to be the technical director of a company making testing systems for the paper industry. I always admired the ability of my R&D teams to turn my napkin sketches into beautiful working prototypes so I resolved to try to gain some mechanical skills when I retired. Teaching myself to turn, mill and arc weld and enjoying every minute. I put my new-found skills to use in support of my major hobby - collecting, restoring and shooting antique guns.

I'm a mechanical engineer. I work for a company that makes construction equipment. Unfortunately my role involves more desk work, sitting in meetings and writing reports than it does hands-on stuff.

I'm a driver in the aluminium tubing transportation industry. Mostly shorthaul but some longhaul in the winter. This month I have to go to work twice and the same next month, although that includes a trip to barbados for a week with a crew of nubile hosties in bikinis. Miserable job, but someone has to do it.

Maintenance engineer electrical and mechanical on very high power transmitter equipment. I also fit and repair aluminum tube transport device avoidance lights as there drivers think they own the sky on very tall masts >700ft!

Frame Sales Administrator for "the large" uPVC group here in the UK.

Responsible for managing trade frame sales from our systems fabricators to trade depots/outlets throughout the UK.

Welding is purely a hobby that unfortunately due to work and real life commitments has had to go on the back burner until I can find the time for it...

You can go and do a 2 week course , it can take years to be good at it though

I was a member of the Armed forces, stood outside Buckingham Palace getting cold, but most of my work since then has been for Local Council, I am a trained Fraud Officer, but I am classed as a Visiting Officer, looking into Housing and Council Tax Benefit, I knock on doors and stop as much benefit as I can, so that could then be Housing and Council Tax Benefit, Child Benefit, Income Support, Child and Working Tax Credits, work with other agencies such as Police, and School admissions.

Excavators are fun. I've only driven mini excavators though. Your hire company have good taste in machinery

I'm a development engineer working on fuel cells, previously I was a stress engineer doing aero, nukes, industrial vehicles etc. Nowdays I occassionally get my hands dirty.

When i left school in the 1960s i did my apprenticeship as a maintenance fitter and worked in a large factory.Made redundant in 1980 and a few months later started a small company fitting TV Aerials.But as of late I am semi retired and just work mornings,Work these days is not very good as there are so many modes of entertainment ie.. Cable. Satellite.etc. on and on.In 1988 when sky went up they charged there customers £75 to install there equip and yet paid me £50.Then a couple of years later they set there on network up to install.
