What is this hammer for?

I have one from my Dockyard days

When you worked in the dockyard did you use short handled 2 and 3lb ball pein hammers for anything. One of our big customers takes a lot of them and they're are apparently used on the docks i'd love to know what they're used for the amount we sell it makes us wonder if they get destroyed or lost

Many were used to hammer in the dogs on the blocks, the blocks are bulks of wood to suppoet a ship.
The "dockies" were seen using the shafts to lever some out, if they went wonky.

You should cherish the moment you saw a dockie actually doing anything Those overalls wern't dyed green you know, it was the moss growing on them, we used to regard the three toed sloth as the animal kingdom role model for us
Sadley in later life I actually had to start working for a living but now I'm retired it's back to being a dockie for me

Yes they do. Thats is why they are supplied with knuckle guards.

I've got several of these hammers in the shed I got given years ago. My son uses them if out fossil hunting at the beach.

Very useful tool in civil engineering industry and generally known as a "chipping hammer". Used to remove grout snots from steel reinforcement prior to next concrete pour.

I'm sure some do, but they're 10" long they must be for a special job where there's not a lot of room, because they aren't very well balanced for everyday use, my boss thinks they end up in the water.

I think your boss is right. I’ve seen that happen with all sorts, even angle grinders, when blokes can’t be arsed to carry it all back down again and book it into the stores at the end of the day

The 10" ones are very good for banging in wedges on Damage control.
Very good for the tent pegs, the ones for cattering etc. Were Mr Bootneck can sit down and hammer away at something. That does not send lead back.
