A bag or box of gauges for my Sunbeam Alpine project. When I agreed to buy it, my mate found various Alpine parts that he'd had for decades and kindly gave them to me. I recall the gauges (speedo, rev counter, a couple of others) being in a plastic bag and thinking that they'd be better in a box. I recall getting them back to the shed, giving one of them a wipe over and deciding that they'd need to be stripped down to be cleaned properly. I've printed a nice label "Alpine Instruments" to go on the box, which I can still find. After that, nothing. I've been through the shed, even into cupboards that I haven't been in for years and are inaccessible without moving loads of stuff. I've been through various places at home, in case I took them there for safekeeping. It's as if I've imagined the whole thing.

Now that is one of the worst scenarios. Do you keep searching for something which may, or may not, exist. I've been in that position a few times.

Under the pallet racking next to the girt big sand blasting machine, behind the big wooden table that's stuffed with boxes and lawn mowers etc. Fizzy ?

I normaly buy another , the original eventually turns up right under your nose..

Which one ? There are several , of which all are very nice lathes .

Always liked the Alpine (presumably the 2 seater sports car and not the watered down Rapier fastback!). Had one once, a Series V GT, never on the road though. Bought as a project and sold as one! I've got a picture somewhere.

I just bought it as something different, but it'll be a big job. It's not complete, and they're not worth much when they're finished.

You mean the Hunter fastback ? I bought a very rusty Sunbeam Tiger in late 1979. Had about eight months MOT on it. Didn't have the time or a place to do anything with it, so advertised it. No one wanted it, and Mum wanted it off the garden, so I scrapped it. If only I could kick my own ar5e

Still got the factory workshop manual for it though !

I keep remembering to get some of those Lidl step drills, then I recall I bought a set a while ago, which have mysteriously remained out of sight since.

Shame about the Tiger. Great car and fetching strong money too.

FOund the photograph. Not the best pic but you get the drift.

Somewhere I have a picture of it being loaded into the back of an RAF C130 that took it from Lossiemouth to Lyneham in '82.

Well, we always called them a Hunter fastback I also had two of the previous Audax Rapiers, a S4 and S5. I remember my step bros friend had an arrow series Alpine in a metallic limey yellow. Looked faster than it actually was, and the upholstery fell to bits. I guess it was supposed to be a Capri rival, and although I have never been a Ford fan, it didn't seem to compare really IMO

Yebbut they were on the Hunter floorpan.
I found the H120 Hunter was quite easy to nearly lose under power, due to its horrible tuck-in steering geometry.
