Hello.
I am looking for a replacement for my 2017 40,000ml 4wd diesel 150 BHP Skoda YetI.
Can you suggest a good replacement for the Yeti - bearing in mind I live in a rural area which can have fairly extreme weather conditions?
As an oldie I’m not sure what to go for next…. Hybrid, petrol, diesel, electric .
What do you think?

Yep bloody good cars are skodas. I've had 3 octavia 4x4s as company cars in the past. All did over 120000 miles before going back and still running perfectly with no issues whatsoever.

How has the Yeti served you so far? 40K miles is nothing for a 2lt TDI diesel engine that has had regular oil/filter changed. May I ask your reason for thinking of a change?

Stick with the Yeti if its not costing you money, Id suggest a Rav 4 if your older and rural.

I would tend to agree, service it regularly and think about changing it in 6 years from now. 40,000 miles it’s just run in nicely loads of miles left before you have to worry

100% stick with the yeti. Anti rust treatment, change all the fluids, and belts, service the 4x4 system. It will give you a lot of faithful service.

Unless you're going to spend a lot more on the next car you have to ask yourself what else is better than what I already have?
You might get a car a couple of years newer but you'll be lucky to find one with less miles on it than the Yeti!
Is a 2017 diesel Yeti compliant with all the ULEZ CAZ cobblers?
If it is I'd be keeping it.

Having just bought a 2009 Octavia Estate, I am very impressed with Skoda's Its great on fuel High 40's to low 50's, nippy 140 BHP drives like a new car.
I do wonder why part with the Yeti?
What will another car do that the Yeti won't?
I did look at them but wanted a big estate
Do a for and against list as I cant think of any good reason to part with such a good vehicle?
Spend the money you where going to spend on a car on a holiday etc

If you are to change it and want a hybrid, I have friends with a Rav4 4wd hybrid, been faultless, they love it. It replaced a Honda CRV.

Suppose it partly depends on the definition of fairly extreme weather conditions: a foot of snow in the highlands is normal, 36" in 24 hours when working in Minnesota was extreme.

My guess is that you're looking to avoid having to spend big money on a replacement DPF sometime soon.
I'd say when the time comes, just bite the bullet and either pay for a clean/renovate or just replace it. And keep the car.

Our 3 cars are 28, 23 and 17 years old, owned for 26, 5 and 9 years respectively (Rover216, Disco2 and Golf 1.9). No DPFs.
All used near-daily & nothing wrong with any of them, only costs being regular servicing and normal wear and tear parts.

I look at cars a lot (no expert) but when I weigh-up the cost of the change against the benefits(and drawbacks) of the new(ish) one , the existing cars always win hands-down.

A 5 or 6 year old Yeti is very appealing, & if I already owned one it would be a keeper, for sure.

But a new car? Nah !

A decent set of all season tyres, and a new DPF, if it even needs one, will be far less than the instant depreciation on a new one.

Until we know where the EV and tax thing is going, I think investing in a new vehicle is foolish at this time

I only sold my 2008 Touran with 209000 miles on it as I needed a bigger car and the replacement Skoda is better on fuel so 5-8 MPG better, or I would have kept it couldn't fault it

I really like the car.
I bought a couple of years ago with 12,500miles on it- thinking it would be trouble free for years to come.
I reckon it was a “Friday car” because I have had the Haldex 4WD unit fail under dealers warranty.
The Aircon then packed up and required a new radiator.

I bought a new set of Michelin cross climate tyres for it just before Christmas - only to end up with a sidewall puncture a week later - so another new tyre is required.

The car has always been serviced as I originally planned to keep it for many years to come.

Now , the 6 speed DSG gearbox / clutch is juddering between gear changes. A local garage is going to check if any codes are showing up this afternoon and is also going to check the oil condition (which was replaced at 20,000 miles).

I am beginning to wonder if this car is jinxed? - Hence the reason for thinking about a change.

Problem is …. As many of you have said “what do I get next?

I think you are working on the same theory as a mate of mine . . . car required £250 of repairs . . . so "it was starting to cost money".

Having spent the £250, to save money, he part-exed it and added 10 grand for a newer car . . .

I did try asking where the saving was . . .

I've got a worse problem. We have 2 yetii one petrol and one diesel both with 30,000 on the clock neither get used enough and could do with being culled down to one. Don't want to upset SWMBO and sell hers and don't want to loose the vanability of mine . so stuck with double the charges for no good reason. Also cannot think of anything comparable on the road to trade both in for.

I went through the down to one motor thing, was ok during COVID…..and we could still really manage with one, but I have a Landrover to now.

But on looking at 4 wheel drive and can tow 3.5 ton…and under warranty…We will stick to a puck up, refuse to pay the road tax on disco and such
