It's not much help but I tend to search autotrader by what I Don't want, eg-Problem is …. As many of you have said “what do I get next?
no EV and no DPF (rules out diesels since around 2008), so, Petrol then.
no DSG (rules out vw/audi/skoda/seat autos, and maybe some others)
no CVT autos (although might be open to Lexus-type quality...)
then try to cut down the volume by searching what I Do want, and a budget, then see what autotrader etc puts forward.
I Think I'd like a Petrol V8 torque-coverter-Auto SUV for under £6k, with less than 100k miles which does 30+mpg, costs under £200pa road tax and is cheap to insure - but I'm struggling...

Might be more choice and compromise on something if older Honda CRVs and Toyota RAVs used torque-converters instead of CVTs...
