We are normally booked up right up to Christmas with motorcycle repairs.
Still work in but definitely not as busy as last year.

Well due to it being plastic the second op didn't go a planned. I had thought I may have trouble and hence why I said "will do the rest tomorrow hopefully."
It did as I suspected and jumped out of the vice due to the plastic relaxing under the clamping pressure. That wouldn't happen with the aluminium but I had a think about it and gripped a different way and managed to get the rest of the underside done, albeit with screw ups intact
Still it let me know it will work and the revised clamping method will be used for the real one even though it probably wouldn't be required.

I heard a couple of coach/minibus/taxi operators in the cafe today, saying how bad things have been all year and its not even picked up in December.Same here effecting everyone I reckon
Just finished machining stage 1 of @DAPPH layshaft thing for his lathe. Least i can do with all the help he gives me. Never need an excuse to play with my lathe 
DRO proved handy at last.
Annoyingly though I made all the bearing recesses to within a tenth in depth only to find that two of the ball races were wider than the other two. Only a small amount but strange as they were from the same supplier.

Got a piece of alu and had a go at making the right side footpeg. Came out ok although I snapped the 5mm ballnose half way through the top half roughing so had to rake in the drawer and found a 3/16" HSS one and got the job finished.
New peg on left previous on right.

Having to relearn a lot as I havent used lathe for about a year! Finish was better but slightly over size I had to do another cut.
I bloody love using carbide boring bars, the little 8mm one can take decent cuts down a reasonable hole. Had to slow it right down to 75rpm to cut the groove, I need a bigger pulley to give it more power!

I meant to ask about the anodising, I assume you anodise then etch after to get the contrast.
Have you tried etching first, I assume the etch is deep enough that it would show up quite nicely after, but without the contrast..?

The laser vaporises the dye I think. I know when I stripped and re-anodised a part earlier on that the etched logo was not visible after the stripping so it definitely doesn't go any deeper than the anodising and as you can't really feel it I don't think it even does anything to the anodising itself.

Flipped over and did the other side, my 10mm Alu cutter is needing replaced but did the rest as it is not totally important for this part so will swap out now this is done.
Second half top done.
Flipped and did underside.
Fits together nicely, needs a good whack to fit together
And with a clip in it showing it fits perfectly Just need to anodise now but that will have to wait until tomorrow.

The 3D printed one was strong in most parts but just the wee tabs shown in the 3D model below were not sturdy enough, probably could have redesigned it to be stronger but I know my friend spent a lot of time trying to get it printed so wasn't going to put him through that again
