I'm just saying - you've made the part (and its very impressive) - but how will you ensure the fitted housing is aligned?

Insert is machined to 0,02mm tolerance to fit into the casing that I have already machined. It locates into a premachined socket for want of a better word and uses existing dowelpins to align it. It will be finished machined in situ with the other half bolted to it,having clocked the bearing journal one journal down from the repair,as already mentioned in one of my previous posts.

Not getting into the lineboring debate. It’s a bit more complicated than lineboring a digger bucket in that there are three shafts whose sizes and relationship spatially would need to be maintained. Hence the repair being approached in the manner outlined.

Fair enough I was a bit brash with my comment. But, putting your machining tollerances to one side for a minute, I, and am sure others would like to know how you can machine a part to fit an existing machined casting, to align with an existing bored set of housings. You can clock all you like, but surely, ultimately all these holes have to be aligned - I want to know - how?

I've needed a handle for my vice for some time so knocked this together from an old socket and a broken Tommy bar. Polished up then "blackened" gave it an interesting shadow chrome look.

One day I'll make a real one.

I made this handle for the second hand vice I picked up at an autojumble the other month, it's not that fancy but it does the job alright.

Converter for dji osmo to use gopro mounts. Milling the 2.5mm slots with a 2 flute slotdrill was scary. Hacksawed the slots first then .5mm deep at a time. Slots are the full length of the flutes, so the last pass was interesting! Not finished and screwed up the m4 thread, it will now be m5!

I have started my attempt at a rear tool post. 6" lump of cast iron, cut into 65mm cube and started milling it square.

Started on the long cross screw. Turned the end down to 12mm. I will make a shrink fit tube and pin to join to the end.

That’s a 1,5mm carbide endmill on a 4mm shank. Keys and keyways are 2x16mm milled into the 8mm diameter stepper motor shaft

Had to use a 1mm carbide cutter to machine the little badge for a classic speedboat. Made from 316 and I bought 5 cutters as I reckoned I would snap quite a few, one did the job. Mind you if I had only bought one I reckon it would have snapped at the first ramp in

Made some rod ends from M20 316 screwed rod. also made 3/8" ID x 16mm OD bushes for the steering housings I made the last day. The bit of bronze plate to the bottom of the pic will be for the lids.

My steering arms seem to be getting popular, another set of 4 ordered today, I only had enough M20 for two of the rod ends and will have to get more 3mm plate for the lids as all I have is enough for the first 4 I made (on the right)

One of my main jobs is repairing hydraulic cylinders . Made a replacement rod for a merlo Telehandler compensator cylinder this week, resealed, assembled and pressure tested.

Found an old part I had abandoned and decided to finish - saddle stop. Needs a bit of adjustment, the holes are somehow twisted and needs a bit more removed on the bottom.

I had lost my smallest bore gauge. When I found it I was curious to seehow easy to make. Some parts pinged off never to be seen again. Making a new plunger?
