The wells are about 20 feet diameter and 80 feet deep.
That's gigantic!! What were they feeding, a city?!

Very true....each to their own....sheds may be more interesting to some than holes in the groundWell I wouldn't use the term exciting, purely interesting. In the same way that members on here find a variety of topics interesting such as the building of sheds. The diversity of interest here adds to the strength and depth of the forum.
@thinfourth its not the only supply, they just like the idea of using the well
I’m confident with the break tank and pumps for the W/C and washing machine supplies, just the drinking water treatment. They are getting it tested so we can proceed from that with what specific treatment is needed, however today she rightly pointed out we drank from untreated wells for a long time
Pic of the well, was looking at other stuff today so couldn’t get any more

He has about 20 acres and loads of orange trees. Portugal gets some severe droughts but they have never run dry. That's gigantic!! What were they feeding, a city?!
My biggest worry would be getting a suction pipe down the well without damaging the floor.
As to drinking it I am pretty certain it will taste better then the dilute bleach that is public water as our well water is lovely
Silly idea
A piece of stainless steel pipe coming from the ceiling and down into the well. Hide it in the ceiling and then to the pump package. If you get a decent pump it should work. Or run a large diameter pipe with a power cord and a hose inside it and use a submersible pump
You say you are worried re the 6 monthly bulb changes.
Every system will need maintenance & inspections regularly.
Test it.
Se what needs doing to it then spec system to treat it.
Just hitting it with UV will only kill bugs not alter trace elements / metals that can be just as hazardous.
Our well is sited about 3 yards from where the cess pit used to be. Original very old well as bits of the house are 1650. Well was still in use in the 1960's as was the cess pit
Well now only used for watering the garden, cess pit retired and remote Klargester installed.

When I bought this property, there was a borehole around the back which I installed a pump to and for the first couple of years was drinking it quite happily. It tasted great, and a lot of people had remarked that the borehole water here was regarded locally as being rather good.I now know why I just want to turn on a tap
