I don’t know about “everywhere” and I’m sure there are folk just scraping a living. But the patch I covered was dominated by a few growers. Old farmers that couldn’t work anymore let out their land to the big boys, contract farming I think called. One firm has about 22,000 acres.
From my experience, generally aroud the Fenn’s east of Cambridge there are no poor farmers
The Reason why land has become available is the margins have become tiny so its simply become an economy of scale exercise, most of these company's and I know as its my business to know are massively bankrolled (and fortunately for me I know which ones have and are likely to fold), Iv seen accounts where these growers have 3/4 million in assets but have debts over £10m its simply the old saying of owe the bank £10000 and its your problem, owe the bank £10m and its there problem.
Small farms packed up 2 decades ago because they weren't making any money, then it was the medium ones, and this year Iv seen two family farms of over 1500 acres each because there not making money let there farms into the coming season.
Simply look at the supermarket shelves cost up the 2 for one veg, remove the 50% that the supermarket will margin and then work out what that produce was grown for, Its not rocket science to work out how many million have to be grown to make any profit.
